@Wyn, 1 cylinder of 12 then probably not notice under normal load, even heavy loads but if your down on power you perform compression testing on a fully assembled engine.. If the engine required stripping then you are looking at pressure being lost via worn piston rings or a worn bore, maybe head gasket failure.. Extreme piston damage
Remember the rig had just 5000 hours drilling,..
Injectors, part of the fueling system, loss of power could be air trapped in the injector or fuel lines, the fuel is pumped under great pressure and air compresses so affects injection..
Injector wear, but only 5000 hours, so maybe poor quality fuel, contamination, leading to injector wear/damage..
At the end of the day they are replaceable items, not looked at engine design, but in my day you simply disconnected the fuel line to the injector, undone two securing bolts, replaced the injector.. Removed the air from the fuel system and away you go... obviously things can be seized... but that complication would surely be mentioned
