Great Post RichKen, I first bought in at 23 and again at 28 then the strike happened. I was 30% underwater but bought more at 19. Never looked back.

Alpha, the bed and isa was the second part of my transfer from yesterday and you are right, I transferred £20,880 and they have left the £880 in my trading account.

Alpha, on the bed and isa front on your analysis I instructed my broker to transfer £20,000 worth of shares to my wife's fund and share account today then instructed them to bed and isa from that account. Not sure if you need this information but thought I'd share if it helps in any way.

Knuttie, Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm glad Mrs knuttie is up and about she sounds a very strong woman. Having suffered two strokes at the age of forty and a year in hospital I found mental strength is just as important as physical strength. Good luck to you both.

So knuttie, as I understand it I only pay CGT when the shares are sold and transferred to my bank account? What if you sell the shares and keep them in your trading account?

On the subject of tax, does anyone know when CGT is payable?
Is it 1. When money has been transferred to your bank account from your trading account?
2.Is sitting in your trading account as cash?
3.Still in shares showing as profit?
