I am so curious to know why Mr Bristow would accept this deal - if he truly is making the decision based on what's best for his shareholders then he must see the glory days of Randgold as far behind them - a startling admission to be sure! Cheers

If I were a Randgold long term holder I would be pretty p*ssed...

They give up everything that generates a decent profit for nothing, nada, zilch, zippo...

Randgold was overvalued for a long time and they were facing some difficult tax demands but still, this coup stinks...

Management's refusal to acknowledge investor emails/questions is quite sad.

If the company's policy is to keep all correspondence to official releases only then why have an investor relations employee? Right now it's an unnecessary expense.

Our disappointment with IR aside we should expect positive news on West Africa soon. The concessions are time sensitive.

My takeaway:
All together the Batie West deposits vastly outsize Cardinal's lone open pit and still these guys are pursuing a 9.5 Mtpa plant averaging 295k ounces per year. Not hard to imagine multiple feeder pits at Batie could support 400k+ Also, Batie's higher grades will ensure better returns.

(A feat which comes at a steep price)

Jin Chang Global Head of Metals, CME Group

Historically, precious metals have traded with a one-year implied volatility of around 4% to 5%, but this year, we are seeing only 1% to 2%, making all-time record lows, this according to Jin Chang, global head of metals at CME Group.

“I think what is very interesting now is that despite [the low-volatility] we continue to see a great volume, and great volume means liquidity for the market place,” Chang told Kitco News.

Chang noted that much of today’s trading volume of precious metals comes from overseas.

“For the very first time [this year], 50% of our revenues is coming from the non-U.S. market participants,”

Barrick's Chinese partner, Shandong Gold Mining (one of China’s largest miners of the precious metal) is seeking to raise as much as US$768 million in a Hong Kong initial public offering to fund overseas expansion.

The firm controls and operates 12 domestic gold mines, and accounted for 6.6 per cent of China’s gold output in 2016,. The country the world’s largest producer of the yellow metal.

Officials said it plans use the funds to partially repay US$972 million worth of debt it took on to buy a half stake in the Veladero Mine, Argentina’s largest mine and the second-largest in South America, from Canadian miner Barrick Gold in June 2017.

So apparently Centamin's exploration manager (of one and a half years) in Burkina Faso a Mr. Moctar Keita has just left and been hired on with IronRidge Resources to head up their Cote D'Ivoire explorations.

IronRidge is in possession of several concessions adjacent to Centamin's Doropo project.

Perhaps another indication Burkina Faso is progressing onto its development stage (& perhaps Centamin will be interested in IronRidge's land package in Cote D'Ivoire)

The U.S. budget deficit widened to $898 billion in the 11 months through August, exceeding the Congressional Budget Office’s forecast for the first full fiscal year under the Trump presidency.

The budget deficit rose by a third in the October to August period from $674 billion in the same timeframe a year earlier, the Treasury Department said in a statement on Thursday. Spending rose by 7 percent to $3.88 trillion, outpacing revenue gains of 1 percent to $2.99 trillion. Revenue from corporations fell to $163 billion, down by $71 billion from a year ago.

The U.S. fiscal gap has continued to balloon under President Donald Trump, raising concerns the country’s debt load, now at $21.5 trillion, is growing out of control. A combination of Republican tax cuts enacted this year -- that will add up to about $1.5 trillion over a decade -- and increased government spending are adding to budget strains.
