Oh the sleeepless nights of the small investor... Having slept on last weeks performance I agree with comerciante about the new dividend strategy. Cable & Wireless comms did the same a few months back and have steadily progressed since. Hansard still pays a good dividend and the company is more soundly based for having taken the prudent route. The board have shown willing to actually take action. At this price it is a buy.

Costain deserves to be above 240p, so perhaps this time we will avoid the snakes and reach 250p

I'm taking a wild punt on Banco reaching 550p by the end of September. I'll probably end up el Ebro without a pole. I'm blaming Bonz...

The Board has proposed a final dividend of 8.0p per share which, if approved by the shareholders, represents a total dividend of 13.9p per share in respect of the financial year (2011: 13.75p), an increase of 1.1%. The proposed final dividend is at the same level as the previous year. Over the last two years the Company has paid dividends that have been £16m in excess of cash generated by the business. The Board believes that now is an appropriate time to adjust the dividend to a level commensurate with the surplus cash generated by the business. Dividend payments for the year ended 30 June 2013 therefore are expected to total 8.0p per share and it is the Board's intention to pursue a progressive policy thereafter. A Norwegian Judge says Hansard has a case to answer. Investors have complained that of some investments for some policies were wrongly chosen. Hansard is arguing, correctly in my view, that they do not offer financial advice and are appealing this preliminary judgement. Source is the latest financial report for June 2012 page 4.

UBS raises DS Smith PLC SMDS.L to buy from neutral; price target to 240p Thats more my way of thinking... we will see.

Davy raises DS Smith SMDS.L price target to 160p from 140p; rating Underperform. Both the market and I think these will outperform over a year, someone has to be contrary.

This seems to be the worst possible result from cases brought by dissatisfied investors with Hansard. The company is fighting all cases.

I wavered over the buy recommendation again but have just added another tranche to my ISA. I had not read about the court case till TheChrist pointed to it. I'm not sure how much affect it has had. My average cost is now £1.52 per share so I must be on some sort of dividend high to keep adding. How can a board with SmilingAssassin and TheChrist be dead... What am I saying? 'SmilingAssassin' and 'TheChrist' something must be dead.

On the 26th of September shares in almost 25% of Santander Mexico at between 29 and 33 pesos will be offered on the Mexican Exchange. This will give a valuation for Santander Mexico. It will also put cash into Santander itself as the Mexican Bank is wholly owned. It could value the whole of Santander Mexico at 13,708,000 euros or £11,026,674. If this is successful the operation will be repeated for Brazil and Chile. Lets see if enough people want them...

Trouble is I average £5.30 on my buys... so nobody sensible listens to me. However I have a very good dividend history from Banco that has paid off my current loss twice over, and I will keep reinvesting to try to bring my average price down! Some people never learn. I do think the Euro problems can be over-egged for Banco. They are a very international bank, and seem able to delegate properly to their different National Subsidiaries, not the case with all internationals. True the South American economies are also stalling a little, but are still expanding. To my mind they have entered the UK most successfully given the current economic situation. They seem to do quite well in the Grand Prix too, race on Banco!

I've just bought another tranche of CWC. I think that the possibility of a buyer for the islands will shine the right kind of light on the company, even if it fails to go through this time.

Like Farrochie I am losing, with an average of 43p. I have also, in the past, used the good dividends to purchase more 'interesting' shares. Recently however I have reinvested the dividends back into CWC and have been quite pleased with the resulting lowering of my average and dividend increase. I took a chance on selling Cable & Wireless World Wide, when they peaked, and reinvested in CWC, in one swoop doubling the dividend and reducing my average price to the current 43p. I am now just in the black, if I add dividends received to my CWC holding now. The things we do to justify ourselves.... I find myself actually having some confidence in the current management, first time or ages.
