This is quite old news but not to me because I've been away in the Antipodes. If my sums are right Inmarsat purchased £27.1 million pounds worth of their own shares end of November. I never know if this is a good way of increasing value for share holders but the share price has risen steadily while I have been gone.

You should have waited for today, Yamster and won another 20p per share, thats nearly 10%. I'm with Bumpersheep, buy more and hold them. Enjoy the price rises and the dividends. If only I had some cash.

"Costain, one of the UK's leading engineering solutions providers, is pleased to announce that in Joint Venture ('JV') with Skanska it has been awarded a Crossrail contract to construct the main station works at Bond Street Station, worth approximately £110 million. The project will involve the main construction, platform fit-out and Mechanical and Electrical services for the Western Ticket Hall in Davies Street and the Eastern Ticket Hall in Hanover Square. It follows on from the contract already awarded to the JV and announced in March 2011, for the initial construction of the structure of the station."

The dividend looks likely to be about 7% so well worth waiting for... I have held RSA for about a year but am already well in profit even before reinvesting the dividend.

I think there is a space of a few months that offer a strong buying opportunity in RSL. I added another tranche to my holding a few days ago. There is flux in the company organisation but probably for the good long term. Of course I am not really a trader. I believe in choosing carefully, holding, and reinvesting the didvidends. I am well in the black on the share price and the dividends are good at about 7%.

I bought both CWC and CWW when they split and it seemed a disaster. Both dropped through the floor and into the basement. Then Vodafone came along and gave me a small profit on CWW to add to my dividends. Now CWC has suddenly become quite a dynamic group, with sensible policies that seem to be working. There is even talk of a possible take over. Though I regard that possibility as quite low this year, I think these shares could reach 60p before Christmas. Richard Laphome, Tony Rice, Tim Pennington and Simon Ball are driving very determinedly and their sat-nav seems well set. I'm in the black at last and looking forward to a dividend of over 10%, or am I dreaming again...

If you look at a ten year graph you can see that Fiberweb have a graph almost the same shape as the Footsie 100. Since 2009 the footsie has escaped upwards which I think bodes well for the next year. I think Fiberweb will do some catching up this year and may reach £1. A gain like that, plus 4% dividend this year, should do my balance good. I can find no sell recommendations anywhere.

I have held these for some time and am nicely in profit.. However the price has historically been very unpredictable. I think it could be £160 again this year, part gut feeling and part reading all the company and market information I can find. I think the gradual, and not always consistent, increase since 2009 shows a more mature market understanding of the company. I'm in for the long term because it is one of my local trio that I like to support. Also don't forget that they have a quite mature dividend programme, now approaching 4%. I intend to keep putting my second tier dividends into E2V for another year yet. Finally all the analysts seem to say Buy or Hold.

Back from grandchild duties in Australia and New Zealand. Delighted to see share price up about 15%. Just noticed how Smith(DS) has closely followed the footsie 100 over the last ten years. Both graphs the same shape but a little out of sync.

It is good to be in profit at last. The dividend policy is good. I think that with the markets staring to be a bit more optimistic these might reach £7 this year.

'Analysts at Panmure Gordon and Co restated the rating on stocks with a $2.54 price target'. Have just returned from grandchild duty in New Zealand and Australia to find a steady 3 month growth. $2.54 is about £1.60 so I hope Panmure & Co are right. At any rate all the news seems good, but I remain nearly 25% down. Again I can only find Buy recommendations for Hansard so cross your fingers... I do think they are a genuine buy at this price in spite of the increases since November. Do remember the excellent dividends.

Am I right? Another 20p this month, though probably merely reflecting the footsie Am not really following things at the moment as am guarding grandchildren in NZ and Aus. I am not sure the profits can continue hence the weak buy opinion Best share in my portfolio. Happy new year

A great year for Smith(ds) Started at about 140p and is now about 241p. Just as important is a dividend policy that is heading towards 5% and looks well covered. I am so glad I alighted on this company and have topped up when prices and cash allowed. Happy New Year.

Perhaps the 'partial victory' for the democrats in flattening the fiscal cliff will help Santander. It is after all very heavily into the Americas and a more stable USA must be good for the whole area. I am so pleased I bought as strongly as I could when the shares were really down. I am becoming less pessimistic about the Eurozone too I know so many die-hard-anti-euros who wail about Span and Itally being NEXT, whatever that means, but I'll wager my Christmas slippers on the zone finishing this year the same size. Happy new year to all.

6% rise today, Monday. Up and down so much the daily graph looks like a cartoon shark's mouth. At least it curves upwards at the important end. Is something in the wind? I can't spot it.

A dividend of 4.32% and a policy to keep it in line with share price and growth. Not common in companies of this size...
