All good points and very valid. I just wish that you or someone had spoken up loudly when there was all the hysteria last year over this “bargain”. Like I said previously, I don’t think this is about news anymore, it’s beyond that due to the shorters. Their PR is pretty terrible to so there are unlikely any external or internal positive levers coming. I hate to be so negative about this. I’m seriously not seeing when I migh recoup any return, so perhaps best to sell, lose and move on.

People said the shares were cheap at 130, 120, 110 and now under 100. The reality is that no assessment is really possible due to the highly manipulated nature of this share in the market. I thought I was buying the dip at 130! I couldn’t see this halving but I really could see it being taken that way. The fundamentals are absolutely meaningless it seems. Similarly, if anyone is pinning hopes on a big surge following the Apple announcements then, we’ll, that’s what we all did last year too...

Yesterday delivered a good rise in the SP on the back of no news (or none that I have found). Today, it’s all vanished in the first half an hour, presumably after people are reading that Homebase is inches from administration. In that case it appears landlords are pushing back on the CVA. Are people seeing that as a risk to MC too?

Your assumption of a falling Nasdaq has been one of many analysts for the last year or so. It’s yet to happen...

Thanks, that’s both interesting and educational. I hadn’t considered the loaning of shares as a revenue stream but as you explain it, it clarifies why so many own large chunks of no dividend shares. Perhaps I should start to loan out my IQE shares. I don’t seem to be getting anywhere close to my paid 130 - 150. I just can’t bring myself to sell any shares at a loss though. Especially when (in this case) the long term could be much better. I learned that the hard way with Alibaba shares - bought, they dropped about 30%, sold when they got back to where I’d started, a year or so on and they are double that now #rollseyes

I read lots in here about how shorted this share is and the pros and cons. What would be helpful is if someone could give me a simple example of the numbers involved, I.e. the maths behind the motivation for big companies to get involved in shorting. A supplement to this is on what basis certain shares get picked? Given all the positive sentiment on this stock and healthy trading numbers it seems strange to me? My largest holding holding is in Tesla, anther hugely shorted stock with large swings. In that case though I can see why. Anyone care to give me a worked example please?

I saw that too Rusty. The question for me straight away was why spend £50k on those shares a few weeks after he could have bought them for £40k. I hope he makes MC business decisions better than his share buying...

I can’t disagree with anything you say and the sale or streamliningvof the Estate seems completely illogical. That said, the HQ is somewhat vacuous now (or it was a few more moths ago when I visited)that so many have left & perhaps it’s more efficient to rent something smaller for the current needs & sell the newly converted office for flats? The DC’s May get farmed out to a third party? Clear out was the wrong wording perhaps as you’re right, that already happened a few times in recent years. Perhaps a refocus of management and the buying teams with a lot more streamlining? I wonder who is actually advising them on all these things....?

I’ve been reading this rhetoric for about a year now, sadly, words are all that it amounts too. The SP seemed glued to the 98 - 112 range whatever the news... I’d love to offload if I could. The prospects are not matched by the so called “bright future”

I have it on good authority that there will be news soon regarding internal set up and strategy. A “clear out” in other words. I also hear that assets such as HQ and DC are potentially being sold... I assume that will be received positively since it indicates a more efficient set up?

They need a good strategy, improved relationships with suppliers (terms) and an HQ team capable of implementing things

Definitely a long term buy, agreed. Would have been nice to have seen a steady percent or two each day.in the absence of news I guess it’s understandable that it stalls around 27, which coincides with a number of the recent price targets. Either that or everybody is leaving to buy Tesla

Maucha, I agree with you, the current state of retail is perilous. It was also a mess then but reasonable sales and footfall were masking the issue a little. The main reason I see MC surviving is as follows. With c. 60 stores they are far more agile and able to create environments and experiences that simply required too much investment in the past. The difference between and B&M and MC is that in B&M almost everything sold is commoditised and can be bought anywhere with a similar experience. Many (not all) shop in MC because what they are buying is an “assisted purchase” ie a car seat, pushchair. Whilst it’s true that some consumers will “showroom” only, many will convert.

I remember when the SP was in the early 300’s. At that time MC had about 250 stores and were making a profit, albeit a pretty meagre one. They did not have the overseas presence to the same level as they do now. Arguably, the company is far stronger now, not a twentieth of the value!

We saw a small movement towards the end of the day. Last time this rose rapidly it felt like pure momentum following the news of the CVA. Before we knew it the SP was at 40p and I was was buying more because I thought it would continue. Stupid me. It does seem to be a share which benefits from a bit of good news and momentum. Let’s hope something is coming by way of a solid trading plan soon.

I think the reason many did end take them is very simple - like me they had bought in at a higher SP and watched he SP fall to close to the offer price on the day of the deadline. When the SP hovered around 20p there seemed little point for many to risk 19p a share when it could fall below. I only bought my entitlement to reduce the price I need to sell at to offload.
