I'm not sure that a positive future for fracking is guaranteed! There's an awful lot of local opposition building on this and whether it's misguided or not the fact is that getting a green light for fracking projects will be hard work - taking up management time and money. Meanwhile ALK is doing very well with its established gas-to-power ops. Another few deals like Maltby would be great! And higher power prices. And keeping costs down etc. I find it very hard to see any serious downsides to this stock for the next 1-2 years!

Why would you sell this stock at 40p after those interims!!. Daft if you ask me. Let's hope the management get round some institutions in the next week or so. This is one of the best holdings in my portfolio. 50+ target or substantially more if they can lift the year-end divvi.

You also have to remember where this company came from. Originally it was a retail payments organisation. i.e. like a mini Paypal. But they lost that battle years ago. Then Hank Uberoi came in and tried to turn it into a financial markets payments system. That wasn't hugely successful either. But now its into remittance tranfers, white labelling etc and seems to be going places. The recent contract wins, bank sign ons and World Bank support seems to me to be establishing a really sound foundation and signals a management with a plan. Several new contract wins and/or an interesing partnership could make EPO fly. But it needs to show solid revenue growth without added cost first.

Don't want to be a party spoiler but look at the five year chart and you'll see VEC has a nasty habit of hitting new highs with a double top then crashing 50 per cent. I think the positive news on its various approvals should change that picture this time. But I really have no idea how you forward value this stock. And, no disrepect BeatThat, but your monotonous repetition of hgher highs don't add up to intelligent comment. Anyone else got a forecast based on intelligent analysis?

OK I officially give up. Half million sold and under 10k bought and the price goes up!. If the sellers are getting concerned about the tactics at Balcombe that's understandable but why the price rise? Not that it matters much - I still rate this as an excellent company and a good investment.

Hi Cornish - their year-end is end-June so expect the finals sometime in September. Probably still trading in the red but look for big increases in revenue, lower losses and stable costs. I've topped up at 21 and expecting to double sometime next year.

Looks like 40p was a target for some buyers. We may be here for a while before those of us with higher ambitions see progress!

And you might have added, Parky, that apart from a few ground-nesting birds such as larks and managed grouse not much nests on the moors. Also, being windswept, there are no big high flying insects up there either, so nothing for the bats. There's nothing wrong with a mixed energy generation capability - clean coal, CMM, solar (my PV panels are doing great this year!), gas, wind - bring 'em all on and let's reduce our dependency on the imported stuff.

Is this a good deal for ALK or not?. Doesn't seem to have exited investors very much!

Question - if they do sell Snorkel what's left? SEVUS is one we know about but hard to value. Looking at the website there's something called Pop-Up but that seems to be a relatively low level activity. So does anyone know what TAN will be if it shifts Snorkel - other than a source of bonus payments to the undeserving BoD?

It's clearly too much to expect that ALK will hold on to 40+ so soon! A bit of low level profit-taking after a smart rise. Alk had 4 or 5 goes at getting above 30p. Perhaps the same will be true of 40.

It's a long way back up to its 80p highs from 2008 but we may just be on the right track. I like what this company is doing and if it gets a couple good results next FY/HY then this should be a steady riser. Anyone else in here too?

I presume today's surge is the result of Mr Osborne's announcement on tax breaks for shale gas firms. I had 40p as a target (puts me up 300%) but I may stick around a while longer as ALK is currently not only one of the best performers but one of the best prospects in my portfolio. Anyone reckon 50p is realistically on the cards?

Well they tried Germany and that didn't work too well. Maybe somewhere like Poland would work for them. Poland is a busy place these days with a lot of new infrastructure development going on. And the trouble with fracking is that local councils are being heavily pressured by residents scared of subsidence. Usually without reason. No wonder this government wants to make planning applications easier! But the trend to gas has to be good for ALK. When is the review out?

Good numbers! I'd say this was heading steadily to 40p or more this year. My slight concerns would be 1, new takeover targets - i.e. are there any decent acquisitions to be made to bump up the numbers, and 2, fracking licences - valuable but there's an awful lot of uninformed opposition at local level when it comes to getting permission to frack. But overall this is a very good company with management which seems to know what it's doing and delivers solid progress. I'm staying in.

I must admit I'm tempted to leave too! The only thing that's keeping me is the SEVUS stake which just isn't valued in the SP any more. So it's like having a free call option. But if TAN is so bust.....? What's the point?

Not good! Demand has improved but TAN had to throttle back on production. The last fund raising was clearly deeply inadequate. SEVUS is diluting with no IPO in sight. And they are planning a distressed sale of Snorkel. Hardly surprising it's the lead faller today. Perhaps selling the SEVUS stake to a private equity investor would pull in cash to re-energise he rest of the company.
