Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
I am struggling to see ANY outcome from this election benefiting consumer sentiment (apart from a short term blip), or homebuyer sentiment.
Before I sell all my homebuilder shares (and others primarily uk earnings based) I would love to read rationale arguments against this view please. Or do others project the same outcome for UK?
You are lucky. I know Hargreave and others settled last week. Iweb just said they are within regs if they settle in 10 working days. Meantime they have use of all that cash. Profiteering out of giving lousy customer service. Typical.
We all have different investment styles. I learned to spread risk years ago. I see a couple of global trends: ageing populations, and increasing technological intrusion. But picking winners in healthcare and technology is not that easy either, so carefully choosing 5* funds enables spread of risk over different continents. It has and is working for me. Best of luck in what you decide.
I assume your pension pot is important and whatever income you generate, you will not be happy to see the capital value decline. There are many 'solid' high dividend payers just now, with the markets roiled by trump and brexit, and now possible German recession. The powerhouse of europe. these issues will be not be fixed anytime soon.
Many professionals and institutions are sitting on cash, hence a few sellers push prices down more than is normal. Personally, I would not be in a rush to invest my pension pot just now, but I would be patient and look for some recovery before taking on risk.
Directors buying volumes mid June and price now lower. Iweb are refusing to hold after relisting 23/8, unlike other brokers. So all iweb holders need to sell oci, pushing the price down as mms know this of course! So right now it's a screaming buy unless you are with iweb!
As a fellow citizen of Planet Earth Bamps I agree with your sentiments.
But as a shareholder I don't see emissions etc as significant (yet) in the housebuying process, alongside all of the other factors.
But maybe I am out of touch. I would hope that TW commission consumer research into the relative importance of key factors so understand the importance of emissions/carbon neutrality to prospective buyers
Hi Bamps, you are so right :you never know what will be thrown at you. Which is why I sleep better diversified into different sectors and countries. Usually if one is down another is up.
And if you are lousy at backing horses like most of us, consider investing in bookies!! 3 windows to take your money, only 1 to pay out
Anyone else envisage a scenario where the party faithful elect Bozo, based on his personality(!), it then transpires that actually he doesnt have a plan and presents exit with no deal. The party grandees bring him down, resulting in an election. Corbyn gets in. What effect should we expect on builder shares?
Unless this is seen as impossible/highly unlikely, then surely a well diversified portfolio is the only sensible approach?
But whatever, the FT is likely to drift sideways to down over the coming months.
Down 20% in 2 months looks seriously overdone to me. Can't see any news and volume looks thin. I expected them to do well with bargain hunters in the ascendance as uk consumer confidence lowers. Maybe no lipstick until next trading update.
Good time to average down??
