Disappointed with SGI recent performance and their communication and proactivity. Given the massive sp drop, don't think worth selling now as bal sheet worth materially more than market cap. Will contact them today re why their statement about fy has changed from two wks ago. To reduce debt, they need to sell off some high value items to get the cash even if they make small loss. Auctions are a good medium to avoid the 'screwing by buyers' who feel that SGI are desperate to sell and they say there are lots. of these in H2. SG have maybe taken on too much development at once along with their acquisitions so there is surely a good possibility at least that success will come in time.

Surely these are simply, if not temporarily costly, teething problems. I'm down on these but in for long-term. SG have been around a long time and will recover from this blip. Much is speculation anyway. Drop in sp is way overdone.

Dogwatch, Someone on iii said 30/09/2014 results would be known by now but I doubt that's the reason. Found the following on FT 2012 article "Coutts, the 300-year-old wealth management business, believes that all three alternative investments of art, wine and stamps should be added to an investor’s portfolio to protect against the corrosive effects of inflation. The findings show that art, wine and stamps provide a “good inflation hedge” over different time horizons." The lower than expected uk inflation rate figure out Tues 14/10 may be the catalyst for the drop. However, volumes were low and Stanley Gibbons operate in many countries and products so doubt the low current inflation is affecting their business.

AbbVie shares are forecast to rise in next few months, as analysts have improved their sp targets for it due to its recent results being good, its tax inversion and takeover of Shire to reap benefits, the US$ strengthening thus improving results in GBP. etc..I don't plan on holding the AbbVie shares but expect a better price than the current one when disposed of in a couple of months when the takeover completes. At least £3-£4 extra from the current sp so a 7% return, annualised 42% if its 2 months, worth waiting for as I don't need the dosh right now !!

This deal will go through and in next couple months at most, certainly not the 5 months quoted by someone else. There is expediency re the tax inversion opposition in US which may be addressed after the US Mid-Term elections in the Autumn.

Guarantee is highest of £46.76 per share in CASH or £24.44 CASH + 0.896 AbbVie share. At mo, that is worth £52.48 converting the 17/07/2014 closing price of AbbVie of $53.52. The AbbVie share price will have to fall by $7.17 to $46.35 (13% drop), assuming constant $:£ rate of $1.71, to equal the current SHP share price of £48.72. I feel the latter AbbVie drop is highly improbable so can't understand why the sp is 7% off the £52.48. Any thoughts ?

Profit taking in case deal fails, movement on AbbVie sp as offer is 0.896 AbbVie shares + Cash per SHP share.and 25% more AbbVie shares will be issued for the SHP shareholders. However, the possibility of another bid from another is still there until the DD is completed and the dotted line signed !!
