LiDCO says US patent granted for cardiac pacemaker adjustment method, device
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - LiDCO Group PLC , the AIM-quoted cardiovascular monitoring company, said it has received the US patent for a new method and apparatus for optimally adjusting a biventricular pacemaker used in the treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF).
The technology, which is predominantly for the treatment of intensive care and anaesthesia patients, has seen a number of 'influential' university hospitals field trialing it, in order to improve the response of CHF patients with implantable biventricular pacemakers, the UK-based LiDCO added.
'Although this is still somewhat early days, the grant of additional intellectual property in this arena means that if the results of these trials prove positive, we should have a strong and protectable market position,' chief executive Terry O'Brien said.
