Never understood this negativity about Oman. We have environmental permits and 15/16 no objections from ministries. One more tiny piece of red tape to cut and a mining license will follow. I can’t imagine our influential Omani cornerstone investor would have invested if there were any doubt of a successful conclusion? The delay has enabled more focus on Portugal which is in fast-track mode. Meanwhile the pilot plant in Moz. chugs away while the mining lease applications are under consideration. Three great assets coming in to play. No objections being faced in any of them, just the usual foot-dragging from the pen-pushers. Yes we are all impatient for progress. When we have it we will need more project finance to proceed as might be expected. There is very little to be worried about here. On the contrary, there are three sources of value-add potential which can transform SAV into a cash-generating company with an altogether different market rating.

That’s encouraging for Altura although getting the cash out of some Chinese companies has proven elusive in my experience. Their SP hasn’t risen very much as yet it seems? DA has compared our Portuguese operation to Altura before now and I note they are only entering production this year, probably 12 months ahead of us. So as I forecast yesterday, the transfer window is very much open for Li miners and would-be miners. This will not be the last!

Fairly bereft of detailed comment but they say this much on Omangov. Ball is in their court on both PAM and MDO. Alara not offering any forecast of when it will be batted back. Oman Previous public reports referred to the establishment of Mining Development Oman (MDO), a consortium of four state-owned agencies (i.e. the State General Reserve Fund, the Oman Investment Fund, the Oman Oil Company and the Oman National Investments Development Company) with a focus on both upstream and downstream activities in the mining sector. MDO is no longer ‘under formation’ and has now been formally incorporated and has commenced building a project portfolio. Oman’s Public Authority of Mining engaged SRK Consulting and supporting firms Mayer Brown and Wood Mackenzie to prepare a mining strategy aimed at attracting local and international investment. This strategy document was completed and has now been submitted to PAM.

Great review of the current Li market JV and M&A potential. This is mating season for Li players. Who wouldn’t want a stake in this game?

I think an offtake deal would tend to support the price rise we are all waiting for. Seems like early days when we are still building the resource but the car industry is driving (n.p.i.) the Li supply industry hard right now. A wise procurement director might strike a good deal sooner rather than later?

VW have placed huge orders for batteries - not what I would call “securing supplies” though? The battery makers now need to properly secure supplies of Li, Co, etc to make them and this is where it gets interesting. Offtake agreements need to be signed with miners and with a number of battery manufacturers chasing available production, they will be competing to sign them. It will be rather like the football transfer window over the next few months so I will be expecting us to get bunged some cash soon!

Useful update. CEO reckons 15.3p is a fair SP value - double the current undervalued level. Cash reserves significantly increasing in the coming year. Buybacks not planned but under review. Sounds very positive!

The Secretary of State for Energy intends to attract “investors to an international public [lithium mining] tender, which will be launched soon,” covering areas in Portugal with lithium reserves. “This is an opportunity for the development in Portugal of an industrial sector linked to exploration, initially, and afterwards to the extraction of the resource, that allows us to achieve industrial gains, in terms of what this sector may become in the future,” he said. I imagine that the level of bids for exploration rights will help to set a floor to value SAV’s licensed production rights? Will DA also bid for new areas I wonder?

Thanks for that IB! The ins and outs of the lithium supply market will take a bit of understanding and at the moment feel somewhat removed from the task of proving up the mine for production. There is plenty of value-add for us in getting to the pre-production stage. I aim to continue building my stake in anticipation.

... which by the way, is still showing as a sell. Probably other trades also buys as the spread was tight early afternoon.
