One thing I have been thinking about is the increasing CO2 pressure. Manufacturers with under 10,000 units fit into a different bracket than the big guys.
It is becoming very difficult for the big guys to produce sports and super cars as they have very strict regulations and even more so going forward. Hence 4 cylinder engine in the next 63 AMG.
When under 10,000 it is a negotiated CO2 level based on developing technology. This effectively means currently they get away with twice as much average CO2 than the big guys.
So remain closely tied but not owned may be more appealing but I am sure they have other ways around this.
Just something else to think about and add to the speculation.
