Glad that you mention R&D. I have been in me shed just lately, working on a teleporting system. Things are coming along quite nicely and I I have teleported me cat from me shed to me house, some 20 metres distance.

I reckon in a year I’ll have a solution. Scaled up, it should be able to teleport a sizeable load of people, anywhere in the world. My plan will completely negate all need to have any transport.
