The SubSub-Committee on Economic Security, Arms and Export Controls23 May 2026 08:40
For those that are interested here is a link to the recent actual meeting of the above which goes on a bit and covers many aspects. From SML perspective it is both encouraging and depressing. However, there does seem to be a growing realisation that the whole aspect of mining, recycling, processing, planning and permitting and energy costs to name just some are likely to be scrutinised more closely, and better solutions sought. Those present at the meeting in the mining business make a clear case for a massive increase in pace, involvement and expertise from the Environmental Agency and the like which offer their projects certainty and therefore encourages investment. There is also a strong case for tidying the role UK Gov plays in how and when it places its support for new and existing projects.
We can only hope that UK Gov gets to grips with it quickly and accurately, I know many will be sceptical of that possibility, but these are times of change and maybe it is time for UK Gov to change too.
Anyway watch it or not up to you.
