Interesting questions @spinnaker; It would be good to get more info on exactly how the mask works and the properties of the antiviral material. eg can it be washed?
Obviously the mask is not supposed to be washed, but the question remains pertinent for the other possible applications of the material we may wish to target.
Whilst I know we use copper nano particles I am unsure at present if these are particles of the elemental copper or of copper oxide. But it would appear from this article that copper oxide has antiviral activity, so either way I would not expect that oxidation in air would inactivate the antiviral in the mask(but what do I know).

"Copper seems to be an effective and low-cost complementary strategy to help reduce the transmission of several infectious diseases by limiting nosocomial infectious transmission. Copper oxide or nanocompounds may be used as filters, face masks, clothing, and hospital common surfaces to reduce viruses and bacterial incubation."
I hope Dr Cave can give us some more info in time.
