Yes actually worked on the I infrastructure for that project and it is still running but it doesn't provide a data base for records or address the out if date operating systems the NHS are still running. The software company took the money and bailed out when they couldn't make the database work. Maybe it's seen as a poison chalice a bit like BREXIT.
Said it a while ago BT should diversify into managed services. The NHS are still running xp and not got a secure common data base for all patient records. Loads of work to be done there setting up and maintaining it. Not sure BT could find a buyer for Openreach unless OFCOM could scrape the cash together as they could forge ahead without a regulator on their back!
Fttp will never happen on a national roll out basis. It's far too expensive and most people don't need or even want it. Most people want fast mobile service and that is where the focus should be. The sports offering has raised bt 's profile in this country and the rest of the world. So if it's making money keep it.
The switch I was referring to is the sysx and axe 10 which I am reliably informed are still all up and running. The old dmsu s were replaced by much more efficient next generation switch while I was still there but the Lle and concentrator units are still buzzing away eating electricity for largely no purpose. Bb only connections don't need the switch so it would make sense to rationalise the exchanges and turn most if them off. Bt should incentivise people to give up the voice part of the land line in order they can do just that.
BT s switching network is now 30 years old 10 years past it's sell by date but still working. It has massive over capacity given that most people don't use land lines for calls anymore .so it might be an idea to take away the dial tone for them that don't want it for say a tenner a month reduction in line rental and start to rationalise the exchanges which consume large amounts of electricity as the equipment is generating heat which large aircon units have to get rid of. The floor space once the old stuff in removed could also be used more effectively. It would be quite a bit of work but it would eventually lead to a leaner and more efficient networkt
Well you brought it up blue. Doom and gloom from you and pacer. If you are a short term invester it would probably best to bail out as there won't be a deal because unfortunately we ,that is the UK don't have control over the terms that is In the hands of the strange people in Brussels. However I've stayed with the shares right down to 68p and bought more at that price so not too worried. You really should have more confidence in the uk to come out of this on top and not be so negative.
Exactly where is this abyss filled with dark cold water. I fancy doing a bit of underwater exploration. Might find some valuable stuff in hole like that . And which vehicle are the wheels coming off...a train a car or maybe even a plane. BREXIT will happen with no deal then we can start proper negotiations from a position of strength. They need us more than we need them
1.30 is now 4.00 quid . Forget about the dividends they are a red herring. If you had 1.30 in 1984 and put it in a bank account with compound interest it would be worth more than 4 quid. The point is at 2.37 bt has gone backwards.ý
Well it does impact the shares I suppose. Some are asking why we had a referendum in the first place. Here's a conspiracy theory for you. Cameron and George decide they want out of Europe so they put the country in a state of austerity...cuts everywhere for 3 or 4 years really **** everybody off then call a referendum on Europe stating they want to stay in. So everybody who is hit by the cuts say if they want in we want out just to give David and George a bloody nose. Mission accomplished. Now resign and go and do what we really want to and leave Teresa's to clear up the sht ..nice
We had this little chat a while ago when some people seemed to believe BT had a key role to play in the nation's security and therefore could not be taken over by the Germans. I did point out at the time we had lots of Chinese tech in our network which sort of says we are not the guardians of the nations security . Mi6 have that responsibility so come on Deuche telecom get your bid in or are you waiting for brexit to get it even cheaper.
The need for a fibre backbone is already served along with backhaul for mobile services. When a couple of fibres can carry all the data for a 20k line exchange why do we need to put in 20k fibres to people's homes . Far too expensive when they can all connect to a couple of masts. Also why pay for fibre and then let Ofcom hand it to the leeches. not very savvy. Best to invest in something we have control over .
I think most techies now realise fibre based broadband will soon be old tech and superseded by fast mobile infrastructure which will be far more flexible and cheaper to install and maintain. TT investing in fibre is a mistake . It can never make money.
Broadband is a bit like the DVD...everybody thought it was the bees knees until they could stream everything over said bb. In about 10 to 20 years time bb will be old hat as mobile networks take over . Then all the copper can be ripped out the telephone exchanges shut and all those nasty overhead wires and poles can come down and be burnt on bonfire night.
