And BT lavishly rewarded him ! What was he 'account' able for whilst here...I think Mr Livingston recommended him for the role...m
Totally lack the vision required and so blinded by the lights they dont know which way to turn. White has gone and she will struggle at John Lewis but this guy needs to communicate his strategy and support it with rationale for it. Chasing Netflix generation...Just BB lines....none of it generate the revenues that will enhance the SP. Brexit may have played a part...not sure about Covid ! CEO needs to come out fighting rather than simply letting us all read snippets in the press re dividend cut perhaps...maybe...lets get real and put some meat on the bones of the strategy going forward. These CEOs come and go with golden hand shakes as far back as Vallance and Bonfield. Lets get some value for it...no more blaming this, that or the other...enough excuses...communication drives everything and BT Group should be at the top of the stack. Tell us whats happening.
No deal will be the result. Remains to be seen how SP affected...Mrs May is May not be the right person to pull UK back to where it belongs...
CITY DIARY: Humiliation comes in threes for deposed BT Boss Gavin Patterson Deposed BT boss Gavin Patterson faced the embarrassment of seeing his firm’s share price rise after it was announced he would step down. There was further ignominy yesterday when Jefferies upgraded BT’s stock from ‘hold’ to ‘buy’, citing the positives of Patterson’s impending departure. The final insult: Gav’s £700,000-a-year deputy dawg, chief financial officer Simon Lowth, 55, has now bullishly snapped up £139,000 of company shares. Humiliation comes in threes.
What are they searching for? Surely you go chasing the 'best' ...someone with a proven track record. I think the last person Head hunted was Ben Verwayan? He did nothing...handed it over to Livingston..a finance guy who enlisted Chaumaghan...both of whom were blind to the Italian job! For sure GP will be sent packing with a wad of money and shares...for sure the new CEO will have his own agenda like getting shut of the dead wood. To hear some on hear they have crystal balls that state the obvious! Others who thought the sun shone out of GPs backside.! Laughable. The new guys CV should include actions they intend to take to turn it around within certain timescales ...realistic timescales too....if they fail to deliver then they fall on their sword, sacrifice bonuses received and vacate...for years it's been garbage...valance, no field, verwayan etc etc...this company needs a proper figurehead not some jumped up pony. An individual with a proven and demonstrable track record. I'm hoping Jan has this person in mind. Ofcom and Sharon White are a problem but they are not to be allowed a free reign as Gavin allowed them to tickle his gummy. BT recently took on her equivalent from Ofwat, presumably at the time go have a go back based on her own knowledge, capabilities and awareness of Sharon Whites 'power' ...we should have been one step ahead of Ms White and at least put up a fight. Some say BT have done alright but she still needs to start thinking twice about taking a swipe at BT and Openreach. Personally I think the guy at Tescos has done well. Came in, not too long ago, dealt with all their scandals and been decisive in the actions and decisions he has taken. This company now needs someone with teeth, not looks and locks. I' will wait and see what transpires, buying some more in the coming days...observe the opinions of those worthy of my time! Have a good day Aus...just going squeeze some lemons! Maybe have a wee dram! I really don't need mates like Jon Beam, Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker though! There are others on here who clearly do!
Morning Aus, Morning Faultsmen...thanks for your comments which I don't take personally! Unfortunately you lack the same beliefs as myself which those that matter do. Ex employee for sure but not bitter in fact the opposite. Passionate about the business capabilities and prospects in the right hands. Pity Patty didn't go sooner. Out of his depth at this level. Those on here that thought otherwise fail to acknowledge the power of the big investors who want action not words. GP offered neither.
Poor Performermance Procedures include sanctions. Repeated and ongoing poor performance results in termination. That is more evident in the lower grades of the company. I've heard these people referred to as ******s...Technician Of Sub Standard Engineering Requirement. Right now this description is more suited to those charged with steering the business to the next level and beyond whilst driving the SP to new highs. The Captain isn't turning the Tanker around but running it aground. It's rudderless and drifting and in the absence of a fresh crew it's going to sink.
O vertaken B y E vents and O ut B efore E aster. Got a good act but been on too long. Enough of this nonsense and no more excuses. Does not have the skills or credentials to turn this tanker around. The big boys have started losing confidence and it's time to go. Walk GP before you are pushed. GP should not be exempt from Performance Management. It was suggested that Jan du Plessis was moving from one tough job to another on his appointment as Chairman of BT....let's see how tough you really are Mr Plessis ...it's time to say toodle PIP to GP.
BT strategy makes sense but reality had to bite earlier Slide in share price shows CEO Gavin Patterson should have been listening long ago May 18, 2018 4:00 am by Neil Collins Its been a long way down to 2, the price BT shares were 30 years ago, and Maureen Lipman was telling us to pick up the phone. The dire performance is a grim verdict on the succession of chief executives at what should be the core of the internet revolution. Now it seems that Gavin Patterson, the current CEO, has had a brilliant idea. Why not put BT and EE together? Furthermore, this astonishing insight is to be called BT Plus! Never mind the Italian fraud, the hubristic foray into footie on telly, the failure to grapple with the pension deficit, the customer service, the snail-paced rollout of fibre, Mr Patterson sees a glad, confident morning, although not for the 13,000 staff he now says he can do without. As Nic Fildes, the Financial Timess telecoms correspondent, pointed out last week, many think he should head the list. The star analyst here is Saeed Baradar of brokers Louis Capital, whose somewhat over-excited prose style contained a devastating demolition of BTs prospects two years ago when the price was twice todays 203p. Had Mr Patterson listened, he might have faced reality rather earlier. The new strategy makes sense but he is not the man to implement it.
I agree Blue...underperformance exits costs nothing.....RITIE...retired in the interests of efficiency is another method of getting shut...ill health that doesn't satisfy medical retirement criteria...I'm not sure about the suggestion of 2 years pay...that would cost far too much but would incentivise the objective so non starter for me...re tier 2s in no jobs then for sure I'm saying it's a good thing to terminate those contracts...if they are on them it's usually because they couldn't do their job in the first place ? Projects that could be done by those who actually know what stuff, stock or tools they would benefit from...the best laid out vehicle to work at site etc etc...of course these people need some supervision but not senior managers, usually tier 2s...and the wholes process could be managed nationally not locally in all regions. Far too much dead wood and it's a shame it's not happened sooner. Accountants and HR run this show now...GP is the front man of course but he is guided by number crunchers who sit in an office and think...omg....look at that vast amount of money going on 'nonjobs'....there's a saving and now the smoke has disappeared from the Italian job its visible.
13000 to go....4.5k outside the UK....all I can say is performance and efficiency will have a role....so if your on a Performance Improvement Plan, a PIP...it could be toodle pip....or if you on the Managing Under Performance a MUP, you could be a mup (ex) it....a mupit.....everyone is just a number these days...for sure there are plenty of tier2s doing no jobs being cared for by their chums..projects galore...a tier 2 on mega bucks and bonus looking at tools, vehicle stocks etc etc...these have to go cos that's where the real savings are.
Something very unusual I understand...a guy ran on stage during the Eurovision contest, incidentally during performance of the English contribution...something about freedom and nazis.....I can only assume it' was a BT manager at risk of losing their position expressing a desire for DT to come in and rescue them....I hope they were listening...I never saw it personally but if you did let us know if the offender neared any resemblance to GP...alternatively....GP could have got Rod to do it...
