Who you gonna to call?20 Mar 2025 19:11
I don't know how low the sulphur percentage in the Sea Lion oil is. If it is 2% or less the refineries when processing the oil are left with a product called petroleum coke, millions of tons are produced and sold around the world and the demand is strong, it looks and feels like coal. A 5% to 6% sulphur Pet Coke, price-wise will cost you around $105 CIF landed in the Uk. 2% Sulph price around CIF $300. If you are lucky enough to have a minus 1% Sulph Pet Coke and the Chinese are in the market and demand is heavy you could be looking at plus $500 if you can find it. Refineries from Long Beach US, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Romania make very good money selling Pet Coke in vessels usually Panamax and handy sized cargoes around the world. So any buyer of oil for his refinery faced with two choices: buy 6% sulphur oil at 75$ a barrel, or $75 for low Sul crude. So refinery buyer you need to buy some crude, WHO YOU GONNA CALL? That's right, Rockhopper. Thoughts of discountng Rockhoppers low Sul crude against high Sul crude ? I DONT THINK SO.
