True, but there is always scope for second generation vaccines. Manufacturing enough of a single (or handful of) vaccines to immunise the world is going to take time, especially as the real challenge only begins when a vaccine has been approved. This will allow other tortoises in the race to catch up. Furthermore, phase 2 and 3 are only the beginning. Phase 4 (post-market surveillance) may mean that some vaccines start demonstrating adverse effects in particular groups of people, hence may slip down the preferred list.
Add to that things like the cost of manufacture, a DNA vaccine will always be cheaper to produce than a modified virus or protein based therapeutic. Hence, a few pence here or there, suddenly results in vast cost savings for countries in the long run. We also have limited information on the long term protectiveness of many of the vaccines in phase 2 and 3. We may see that their effectiveness drops with time and does not give long lasting protection.
A final thing to add is that even if SCLP is not widely used, if it proves that the Immunobody platform that Covidity is based on is effective at treating and protecting against viral infections, then that opens a massive market area for the company. Demonstrated vaccine against viruses AND cancer.
I'm not too worried that it's a second generation vaccine. There's still plenty of time for the tortoise to catch up and pass the hares in this fight.
