Yes also as Postie says - harsh to blame it all on Mooky.
But one massive mistake/oversight was not having a clause in the CP deal which allowed them to pull out with only a penalty. But then again maybe it’s not so standard - as Twitter we’re about to sue Elon musk recently too for trying to pull out…
Hi Wolf, I agree. It’s interesting. Yes without Mooky (or an owner without his type of approach) CW prob could have avoided some of the current stress - but on the other hand without his personality and aggressive approach they probably wouldn’t be the worlds second biggest cinema chain and had it not been for a once in a lifetime shock event - none of this would be happening now and they’d be enjoying their riches securely.
I guess you could argues it’s part of the entrepreneurial journey where things aren’t text book and nor are the rewards…
I may be wrong, of course....but more I read about stuff like this and also the C11 extension request - just gives me more confidence CW are likely going to come out of C11 more in tact (including impact on share price) than people realise.
I also feel we are fortunate (only in regards to getting out of this mess) that the company is being operated by an owner as opposed to just an employee. If the latter was the case - i think they would have given up a lot easier (and prob moved on to their next job with AMC or someone else....)
Its likely going to stay very nervy until its resolved, but the hope probably is - box office shows more signs of normalising early next year and hopefully financial markets stabilise slightly (seems like everything on its a** at the moment)....hopefully the combination of the two will present Mooky with some improved options
I didnt really have much interest in watching it - and actually thought it wouldnt be very good and probably not live up to the hype. But its had good reviews and the BO numbers seem decent - so i might check it out this weekend too. I do remember the first one being decent - although cant remember much of it.
It seems like its almost a Christmas gift from James Cameron to cinema. The budget for the movie was so high that itll take one hell of a performance to probably even break even - even if it does sell a lot of tickets - but that shouldnt affect cinemas too much - as theyll still get the revenues from whoever watches it.
Avatar numbers are sounding immense. Considering it’s probably the only notable release this month - if these numbers are accurate - it’s likely to single-handedly bring the December box office takings to a reasonably decent figure on its own!
Allkap - Vue is £7 for two tickets to see Avatar 2 on a Friday night…that sounds surprising…
If you’re a shareholder and paying £21 a ticket out of loyalty - just get yourself an unlimited card
Funny - my nephew who also holds a cineworld card has been telling me for ages he was annoyed CW had no sundae sauce at the moment because of their supplier issues (he is not invested or knows that I am)…and I thought he was mad for saying that…likely not based on this lol
Let us know if you read anything interesting Elvis! :)
Thanks again Elvis
Thanks Elvis
Elvis - i admit much of what you have said has gone over my head, but i do feel either you must know what you are talking about or you have one hell of an imagination lol
Can I just ask - if the scenario is likely to play out as you describe - then why is the share price not moving up faster? Surely others are able to see what you can see from the documents? Or is a reason whythe shares are not being picked up at the moment?
I would consider 'intact' to mean that they will come out of bankruptcy as a going concern in their current form i.e. not a newco.
A dilution may not be the end of the world - as it is something that probably should have happened a long time ago and as has been repeated many times on this board now, the SP is not an accurate reflection of the market value of this company ....i.e on which a dilution will be based.
On a personal optimistic note - it seems to be Mooky is working this out and I doubt he is going to have his shareholding massively eroded. I have been seeing loads of trailers for next year now - the slate looks really good and consistent. These are just very sticky months and the C11 was completely understandable.
One of the biggest things for me here was, was Mooky going to scr*ew us over by way of sorting out a newco...and I dont get the sense from that statement that that is now the case...because if he was and he was going to move to a newco with the existing assets - well then the group wouldnt come out of this 'intact'.
Just my opinion.
CW just need to keep getting past one obstacle at a time.
Fair enough Wolf - im sure we're all curious to see how the news is interpreted tomorrow :)
Although - i would gently add, the line you have quoted was from a 'source' - and theres been lots of news coming from such sources over the past few years which have not been correct. The CW line today is quoted as coming from a spokesperson, so may hold more weight...but lets see
I want to reserve any prediction on any SP movement - just as I dont want to predict whats going to happen with England in the rest of the tournament....but a pleasing Sunday night nevertheless :)
lol yes ive been reading the exchange with interest! :)
Will be interesting to see if there is an effect on the SP in the morning
Its also pleasing to read they say maximising value for all stakeholders - which I am presuming includes consideration for shareholders....opposed to earlier statements which specifically mention significant dilution etc
Wolf has been insisting the matter is no longer in CW's hands - but in the hands of the creditors - so how could CW be in a position to make such a statement?
It’ll be interesting when it is released on Netflix - whether Netflix have any metrics to measure whether there has been any negative impact on subcribers numbers/company value etc based on the cinema release.
If there has been none - if I was a senior board member I would be asking the ceo why they are consistently leaving £10m’s in ‘free money’ on the table.
Wolf mooky may not get to ‘decide’ I.e. have it entirely his own way….but from what I gathered part of the terms of the addition a money being released to CW was that CW would pay the $20m in rent and Mooky would agree to
Consider offers/a sale. If he doesn’t have a considerable influence on whether it gets sold or not why was this specifically mentioned?
Jed....There may well be no offers. But to be fair - for those that bought over 7p - if it goes bust, well then they lose it same as all of us invested...but if it survives, has a more robust set of sites, and gets back to some kind of normality or even sold - chances are 7p could be one hell of a bargain. So as long as people are just sensible in how much they invest - its prob not the worst thing in the world.
