My naive thoughts5 Mar 2025 08:13
Suppose I was a trader (or a group of traders) who’d built up a short position. I’d want to close (at least most of) it before any favourable smoke signals from MOU5. I might have one last go at pushing the share price down before I started to close my position.
What would be my risks?
Not T&T, where any immediate news probably wouldn’t be significant enough to jolt the share price upwards.
Thanks to the vigilant Ireland watchers here, we can see that the Irish wild card could be played at any time. Might bring some new players in, especially if we were going to get a cash payment. Ouch!
Rumours might start to emerge from MOU5 before any official announcement which might start to make a big short look increasingly risky.
Finally, if PG had positive news on MOU5, he might try to catch the shorters by releasing it as it arose, rather than waiting as his RNS had said. This could be a real bear trap and could cost exposed shorters a lot of money.
I’m not a clever trader, so I’m just going to hold my shares and wait. But if I’m getting anything badly wrong here, I’d appreciate being told! Porters1? Anyone?
