Still got my shares, Not selling, Gonna be a crazy adventure this next 2-3 years...GLA.
Cheers John.
Sorry for your depression, I look at life like this, If you have no debts have a roof over your head, Food in the fridge/freezer and time for yourself then there's a good life to be had.
Too many of us chasing that pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow, But only a few are successful, If ever you want a man Friday on that Island give me a call.
Remember..."Always look on the bright side of life"
CHRISP
The British worker was seen as the idle man of Europe...I agree, Winter of discontent helped Thatcher to her Premiership, Our Manufacturing industry was decimated, Foriegn powers took over, Thatcher rewarded the Rich and shafted the poor, I was at Orgreave(look it up if your're to young)I saw what Thatchers henchmen(Met Police)did to the working man, So it was recipricated on the Met.
Blair I have no time for A Tory in Red clothing, Taking us to an Illegal war with Iraq to cozy up to Bush, In the UK there's them and Us, Politics I stear WELL clear of now, All in it for themselves, With their snouts in the troughs it's a case of "Do as I say not as I do"
Cracking post John.
Here's my ten peneth worth this damp Sunday Morning, This was my 1st foray into the shares game, I'm 64 years old and never had a great deal of cash, Any road, Back to the dark days of Thatcherism, 1981 the factory I was working in closed down, Miners strike, Falklands War, 5 million unemployed(me also)blagged, Stole, worked on the black and claimed social security, This was from 1981 to 1984, Wife 2 young uns and a council house, We never had a great deal but ourselves, Tough but we made good with what we had.
End of 84 I found a job, Driving for a local engineering company, Money not great but a little more than the social, Holidays were scarse and treats were welcomed by all, I lost my job in 1995, I set up a Union after one of my work mates was involved in a serious works accident, Owner covered it up, As we weren't protected we decided to be Unionised, Only 25 of us, 20 joined, The owner hated the Unions, 1 by 1 my work mates dropped out of the Union, I was the last man standing, I was called in and given my redundancy notice, Collected my gear and left, Work mates could look me in the face.
It was a blessing in disguise, A few weeks later a friend who worked at RR asked if I wanted the opportunity to work there, I jumped at the chance, Only an interview he said the rest is upto you, I got the job, It was in the Old Foundry on Osmaston Road in Derby, I never looked back, The money I got I felt like a millionaire, If you worked hard enough you were rewarded, Bought our council house, Sold at a huge proffit and moved to another suberb of Derby, Wife working money in the bank for the 1st time, RR decided to close the foundry and send the work elsewhere, I was offered several places elsewhere in RR so I took up the offer of working at "B" site, I became a Senior Union official for Unite, Joined the sharesave just after the big bang of the banking system, I could see things were changing at RR after this, In 2009 I decided that 3 shifts were getting hard on my life, I took redundancy and pension, Cashed my share save and made a killing, Escaped HMRC by giving the wife 50% of my shares over 2 years so no tax to pay.
Several jobs later and financially secure we both decided after 39 years together it was time we find another pathway for each other, A divorce and splitting the house and monies at 50% each, I had never had so much cash in my life, I have a nice little job of 12 hours a week, A RR pension(now moved over to Legal & General)£40k was put into a Barclays 2 year fixed ISA, It ended this May, There wasn't a great deal on offer out there so I decided in July to put £30k in RR through Hargreaves-Landsdown, I was up almost £2.5k, I thought this is the life...then half year result, Christ almighty £5.4 billion lost, We could all see the shares going downhill(hindsight is a gift only a few of us have)I refused to cash in, 30k now worth 13.5k...BUT.
I'm content with my life...no tears here, Good luck all.
Buy...not Bye...lol
12000 shares @250p...my Nil Paid shares will be circa 40,000, I'll bye 20,000 @ £6,400, Which will bring my average down to circa 113p
Is the above about right?
I'm in @250p so in the same boat....Options
1. Do nothing.
2. Sell your Nil Paid rights and either keep the cash or use it at your leisure.
3. Buy some or all of your 32p shares to average down your intitial price...and wait a few years and hope a vaccine and air travel get to pre Covid times.
4. Sell at a loss and leave the trading game to the Professionals.
5. This is the P isser, Shares will be diluted, Vast organisations will hoover up in the 100s of millions at 32p and re issue to the market. There'll be more RR shares than people on the Planet.
A decision only you or a finanacial advisor can make, Whichever it is I wish you well.
My shares are with HL, My £30k holding is now worth £12,670.16, I really don't know why...but I aint fussed, My nest egg is quite a few feathers short...but I still have a nest, I'll not go hungry, I wont freeze in winter, All in all i'm still fitish and healthyish, Those who have taken the hit and closed out and lost 10s of 1000s of £s I really have empathy for, This was my 1st venture into buying shares...Wow what an EFFING experiance.
PS...I aint selling, Sooner watch those Red Dogs down the road.
Pretty much spot on matlot, Having worked at RR in Derby, The experienced fitter/engineer has bailed out, Took redundancy and pension, My pension moved to Legal and General last year, It was always a case of money money money for real OLD ROPE, Directorship was seen as a pay day of biblical proportions, Cars, Expence accounts, Jollies around the world, A job made in heaven.
I spoke to an ex colleague a couple of weeks ago, 30 years service who said RR has changed for the worse this last several years, Building projects ie the new road linking Boulton Lane and Moor Lane, Test beds galore, Security, Agency workers, He got out in July, He said it was the best and worst thing he chose, Old Friends will ride off into the sunset with a slight glance looking back.
Sad!!

The Man (arrow pointing up)
THE LEGEND (arrow pointing down)
Make sure you don't put it on back to front.
I'm ex RR, Scared...not in the least, A little annoyed that the silence from those who run such a large National company aren't doing the SP any favours, There may be a very good reason that all things are quiet, Who am I after all, Just a tiddler in a vast SP Pond.
£30K at 250p disapearing quicker than John Wayne riding into the Sunset.
Hey casa...have you ever heard of Nostradamus, Well know for his predictions, I believe if you chuck a load predictions into a pond a few ripples might become fact.
Is causing the drop imo, We saw last Friday how alledged good news can send RR shares moving north in a fast way, I wonder if this snippet of news was a tester to see what would happen if a negociated loan was not too far away, Whatever the reason some people made a few £££s.
I went passed RR in Derby yesterday(Voctory Road)I've never seen it so quiet, Both the main Car parks were empty, No footfall on Moor Lane/Victory road where there's usually quite a few folk mooching about.
If this Kuwait fund is near or even a RI issue, Someone somewhere had better have a statement too hand sharpish.
GLA.
GE shares were trading at $13.62 on 6th Feb 2020, Now trading today at $6.27 with a 3.55% increase.
Note that GE are a vast company with fingers in many pies, But affected by Covid-19 the same as all Areo industry.
casa posted..."at least i am not loosing my shirt like you t o ssers are"
I'm guessing i'm one of those t o ssers...I have a wardrobe full of shirts, Maybe more shirts than Imelda Marcos had shoes, Anyway i'm digressing, My financial future is as safe as long as the Sun Rises in the Morning, Banks are paying nowt in interest, I withdrew £30k and invested in a company that gave me the ability to buy all those shirts, Altho i'm over £10k down on the market price atm...I still have the said shares, So in essence my shirts aren't lost, Only in the life of subterannean species do shirts equate to £££s
Toff, Ask those 2 executives you know how RR works, They'll be no Nationalisation, Government have the Golden share, They can pump money in but buying it lock stock and barrell is out of the question, Energy, Defence, Nuclear are making a profit, Civil Areo where the ££££s are is having a bad time...ask yourself why, Trent 1000 engine was found to have problems with quicker wear on parts than should be, A fix is on, Covid has clearly been a killer, Not only for RR with power by the hour and plane hours taking a hit...but 100s and 1000s of businesses around the world.
Of course Senior people will be looking at a financial deal of some sort...even a RI, From the not so Senior people i'm still speaking to after working at RR in Derby for almost 15 years a RI is the least favourable option on the table, Has it gone away, I don't know...as I don't know any Senior Executives...watch this space.
ARSENAL17, I doubt he knows any executives, Would RR issue a RI issue and upset current share holders, £6billion + in liquidity, ITP if sold could produce circa £1.5billion, Talking to investers/loans and the like.
I was invited to a redundancy get together a few weeks back...turned it down, Alot of old ex workmates took their pension and redundancy, There's tough times in Civil Areo at the mo, Engine build not what it was pre covid, I'm confident my shares in 2-3 years will give a good return from my investment.
Too many Mystic Megs who think they're ITK...
Distillery industry, Brewing industry, Transport, Tobbaco, Pharma, Countless others, I used Beverley Allitt as your other half works for the NHS, All the above kill, Are they at fault...No.
It's business, Blame the Saudis for the death and destruction...not RR.
"Going long on a company which earns 28% revenue from the arms trade and who’s engines power Saudi jets which drop bombs on innocent women & children in the Yemen helping create humanitarian crisis in the process"
Beverley Allitt murders people on the NHS watch...NHS fault, I sell you a car, You use that car to kill innocent people...my fault for selling you the car.
You are truly an idiot Gaz.
He's like the guy who's been invited to a party, He goes to a table where there's an empty seat, Sits himself down and introduces himself, Within 10mins he's taken over the conversation, 5mins later the table empties and he's left with the only person who'll listen to him...himself.
