The regions of Bierzo and Laciana will have a fund of 70 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the central Government, as reported by the Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco). Asturias will receive another 74 million, which added to the 12 million in guarantees in the hands of the regional administrations bring the environmental investment in Castilla y León and the Principality to 156 million euros.
Among the operations that will be restored, there is the one that was the largest open-pit mine in Europe; the Gran Corta de Fabero, where today the Secretary of State for Energy, Sara Aagasen, the director of the Institute for the Just Transition, Laura Martín, and the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Junta de Castilla y León, Carlos will present the plan Fernández Carriedo. The investment in the Great Corta, confirms Miteco, will include an enclosure for the observation and study of fossils found in excavations and recreational areas.
The aid from the PRTR was approved by the Council of Ministers on May 5. They will finance most of the restoration tasks, since the mining companies closed in recent years did not do so because they were in liquidation or bankruptcy, and once it was verified that the guarantees that the companies presented at the time to pay environmental recoveries have been clearly insufficient. Specifically, the MITECO contributes 70 million to the actions in Castilla y León, and another 73.7 million for the works in Asturias, while the regional executives, respectively, add guarantees for 2.7 million and 9.7 million.
