Wish this man was negotiating brexit for us. I imagine Friedman turned in his grave at Obama's cash for clunkers idiocy. https://youtu.be/8YtMXbp0Ijo. Friedman would simply say we are leaving and will have an open trade policy, we will have no specials deals with anyone since such deals are about restricting trade.
I dont think this plan isn't a goer. We either go with clean brexit or stay in and be a permanent disrupter. Personally I do think short term disruption is worth it and we'd be fine but staying in and ensuring the EU is dysfunctional is a sound strategy
May rather remind me if Neville Chamberlain. Why didn't she waved a small bit if paper with her's and Junckers Sig? This deal is very much the Lord Halifax option. Where is the courage?
So what if there are ppl of Asians descent there, what a stupid comment. Always interesting how remoaners project their prejudices on ppl who disagree. I went to Toronto and didn't it a second thought. The Currys are average though not nearly as good as here.
1 language, 1 set of common law, 1 set of parliamentary democracies, 1 Anglo Saxon culture, 1 queen. Quebec would want to leave because them being in this is like us being in the EU. A fish out of water.
Ideally the UK should consider an economic union with Canada/Australia/New Zealand. A deep political and economic union between these nations would be a highly sensible thing and provide a counter weight in the world to US, China and EU. We share common law, language, culture and a monarch. It's a better fit than the EU. Ok Quebec might say Mon dieu but so what.
Hong Kong is a genuine financial centre in south East Asia with an open trade policy much as London is. What goes on in Ireland and Luxembourg is a very different beast whereby companies set up 1 man and his dog offices and divert multi national profits through these offices. That is morally repugnant yet the EU positively applauds that behaviour.
Snige as you know and are attempting to mislead Ireland and Luxembourg are distorted by tax haven status whereby USA GDP is diverted through these countries. Takr that out and Ireland GDP per capita is about the same as the UK. The UK to Hong Kong comparison is therefore entirely valid no matter how tiresome you find it.
Funnily enough asperger now I have seen this deal I would rather stay in and adopt a disruption strategy and policy of disregarding all EU rules to suit ourselves as the French do. There is precious little the commission can do in such circumstances.
And also remember the great capitalist successes of the 20th century persued open trade policy and are not within giant trading blocks. Embarassing a former colony like Hong Kong has GDP per capita 50% high than here by simply following a better economic system and rejecting socialism in all forms.
I sincerely agree with you Aperger. But please remember we joined the EEC as part of the civil service managed decline of the UK in 70s. The civil service view the public as the ignorant great unwashed who they humbly lead. Had Mrs T got in 10 years earlier I'm certain we would not have joined since she could have done to trade policy what she did to utilities if outside.
