Its not even a tenth of the annual US military budget alone. Its a drop in the bucket and a perfect opportunity for us to dump old hardware that’s sitting or going to sit in long term storage, get discontinued and replaced by newer stuff.
Its also the perfect opportunity to for the US to simulate a large scale war without sacrificing any of our troops, great proof of concept for our military doctrine, equipment, logistics, reconnaissance etc.
It has also put a backbone into European NATO members who are now making huge orders for military hardware which means profits, tax revenue and continued r&d into war, as well as less reliance on the US military for their national security.
Its also sending a clear message to China about how we stand firmly as an alliance and making them think three times before acting on their expansionist ambitions, which includes invading Taiwan which would send us back to the 1900s due to almost all advanced semiconductors being manufactured there.
Ukraine will also be a loyal ally of the west from now on and it doesn’t hurt for us to get a nearly 50 million population boost to our interwoven economies (massive market growth potential for US\Euro businesses). I can guarantee you that the USA will make multiple times that money back purely from rebuilding Ukraine.
And we’re also crippling our second largest adversary and giving authoritarianism a royal beatdown for pennies on the dollar compared to how much of the US military budget is focused on the Russian threat to begin with. (150+ billion)
And in case your education failed you; many European countries used to be under the control of Russia (Soviet Union) just over three decades ago and Russia would have been guaranteed to invade those countries as well to “reclaim their historic borders”, if they weren’t stopped in their tracks.
European national interests are 1000% tied to US national interest and supremacy with the dollar as the world reserve currency. You have no idea what you’re talking about if you think it doesn’t serve our interests to join this fight. In fact its even better if its protracted for the Russian economy to dwindle which potentially could lead to regime change and democracy / further alignment with the west which would be insane money for us too!
