What it basically means is If a shareholder holds a certain pecentage of shares they also hold voting rights which are in propotion to the number of shares in circulation .Some companies may have a propotion of thier shares in treasury ,either through buy backs or unissued .It then follows that if there are ten percent of the companies stock in treasury the percentage of stock a shareholder holds as a discount of ten percent voting rights. .

So go off somewhere quiet and have good talk to yourself it might help your condition.

If anyone is hoping for a quick profit on this stock they are unlikely to be rewarded .The recent results point to a long haul to treble digit territory. Unlike most stocks in this sector they have some rehabillitation to do and that as to be seen to be working before it competes against its peers in the sp.That said it is a sound company with a reputation nationwide that as long standing ,couple that with the new management and two years from now it will be treble todays sp, it is a buy for the long term.

Present market climate will subdue any upward movement but overall this is now a good stock to hold upto the year end should see circa 90p by Feb if there is no further macro effects .

You are another who thinks every cost the depot incurs goes against the depot margins you and your cohert "corny" know nothing about running a plant depot and to refer to me as a dreamer and a clown is a bit adventurous. First of all preping a machine for hire is actually paid for by the last user if it outside the normal maintenance shedule comes under cleaning and refurbing for excessive use or abuse in T& Cs .If it is being hired out as a normal flow through depot the prep cost should be covered in the depots overhead operational cost. So if the depot is being run efficiently (which would not have been the case if you two were doing it ) there are no add on costs to the depot. In answer to corny on the question of rehires (Corcoran did not start Rehires they have been a part of the system since the 1980s) but was only used if the depots did not carry the equipment in the fleet it was used mainly to stop competitors getting into the customer on what were seen as exclusive accounts. The reason for buying plant that would not normally be seen as a general item was for the same reason and also to starve competitors of revenue. Plant hire is about service and the service as to be seen as consistent and encompassing so Speedy as to try to be all things to all men if it is to succed in dominating the market.These strategies carry risk but also oppurtunities and the phrase " Stick to what you know and be good at it " is ok if you want to standstill.

You really are starting to show how little you know about the plant game .I suppose it is par for the course that someone does not see the bigger picture when they start quoting hire rates and vehicular transport logistics . You should concentrate on the SP a bit more.

You say in a previous post "anyone with a bit of knowledge" are you self referencing as it seems you fit that criteria. I should stop making statements regarding the plant hire industry if you don't know what is entailed from the beginning to the end.

Cinkid You are fundamentally correct on your analysis of the plant and tool hire market ,but sometimes the synergies work and it is of significant interest that the logistics of plant movement within major cities is now very tight and restrictive so being able to source all your needs at one outlet is favourable to major contractors.The other aspect which you are missing is that Speedy as several national supply contracts with major contractors and may be obliged to have the requisite plant available.The cross-hire of plant is now a thing of the past as the regulations you put forward make it virtually impossible and very costly. As for costs of turnaround they will as always fall on the invoice to the customer in a well run organisation . The plant game is changing more from the regulatory aspect than any other and with that change comes new challenges , welcome or not..

Yes I would imagine that is likely at this time but one caveat.Turnover is not always profit.

Helped build this company back in the 80s when it was a small operator part of the Allen group in Wigan .Knew all the cheifs and most of the then managers at depots mainly north west opreated. Gone on through organic and predatory growth to be a large operator but its buisness model is exactly the same as your one man band tool hire shop. To that end it depends on a bouyant economy and especially in the markets it serves,those fundamentals are in place and set to get better albeit in less volume than its first meteoric rise before the crash. The shed as been cleaned out after the middle east affair and the management as a better grip on the day to day running of the operation, so on present economic forecasts the stock should only go one way.

Dyna, I Have been trading in this groups shares since 1987 when they were then Y J Lovell they have morphed several times since then and I have profited over the years especially this last year when the stock went from Circa 82p to 256p I sold out at 244p on the half yearly results as I think the drive upwards had stalled and I wanted to invest elsewhere ,were things were going forward.Fundamentally they are a good well run group with an excellent management who have a sensible strategy but it is going to take time for the strategy to become reality and I did'nt have the time to wait .Good luck with the stock .
