OK faced up to it but subject to scrutiny from others more able here.
Between 1998 and 2003 the labour government under Blair and Brown 3.67
sold 415 tons of Treasury gold at an average price of $275 an ounce. I have taken this as Troy ounce. There are 32150 troy ounces in 1 ton of gold. viz 32150 x 415 x $275 =$3.67 billion.
Taking the value at $1970 an ounce today that represents approx £26.3 billion Exchange rate dollar to pounds at 1.30 = approx 20 billion pounds.
Hoping my poor maths about right and sufficiently goldie to deserve a place on this board.
Good luck all for tomorrows announcement
Hi Tibbs
You make my point well. If the MAJORITY of voters wished to change the voting system to say a proportional representation one put up by any Party and wins so be it. A lot to be said for it. Boris# water cannon debacle a mere micro drop in the ocean of politician fiascos when compared to the Labour PRUDENT CHANCELLOR Brown selling UK gold into the open market at 200 an ounce. Too frightened to work out what the current value of that would be if in the Countries Exchequer today.!!!
Hi Zambian miner well said. I think the most important part of his posts are " to win an election" Try electing a politician in Fascist Russia or China (I know technically commie but state ruled by a few individuals who jail all dissent) I take comfort in that if I dont like the decision makers I can use my free vote to get rid of them or peacefully protest on any matter . Try that in Hong Kong , Moscow or Beijing.!!!!!!!
Hi Tiger
Thanks for your observation and enjoyed ref to Citizen Winston.
Yes a bit "off piste"
I had in mind proletariat in the collective "working class" eg property owning working class in which category I definitively fall.
Certainly not bourgeoisie.

Without a validation in your reply your posts become an irrelevancy of major proportions.
Of course all you post can be checked despite the validity of the LSE security system/

Apologies I did not state that I was an avid follower of Marx at UNI and page 35 and 36 regarding property owning was anathema at that time to me having been a guy brought up in a council housing estate .

Well said Who exactly is mrtibbles.
I have stated that I would not post following mizoldgit taking exception to my explanation of how the "book works" but i must now break that vow .
Mr Tibbles
Firstly I have between 35 -40000 CEY shares held in both an ISA in my wife's name and my SIPP and have today added from our Premium bond account. These are held in Charles Stanley nominee accounts of course with other holdings.
Firstly do you have any shares in CEY where held and registered. You have my details where are yours?
Secondly, you have property in Cornwall as evidenced by your posts which indicates you are part of the property owning proletariat.
Gold and holdings in a gold mining share is the pinnacle of the Capitalist system . Why in that case are you posting both anti establishment , socialist, and indeed quasi Marxist propaganda on this board .
Forgive me if I have misinterpreted your posts since 2010 but have held CEY since 2005 (AIM) and lurked here for some considerable time.
B
Apologies mizolgit I certainly wouldn't wish to offend anyone here or rub raw nerve edges with my posts as evidenced by your taking the time to post your comment.
Have retreated back into lurking .

I missed a chance today to add to my holdings in Cey I did predict to myself a limit buy order in at 132 .7 which would have been filled and then a limit sell order at 128.8 or 9 which as I trade in 10000 blocks would have added about 130 extra shares to my CEY holding. However the POG holding above 1650 rather unnerved me. Oh well but once bitten (past life) twice cautious.
In hindsight was a no brainer but I have a PhD in that. I am also mindful that the boredom of the present can lead to injudicious decisions.
Keep well and safe all

Hi Tiger
REALLY WAS HOPING THAT sTARMER
Hi Tiger and Tibbs
I was really hoping that Starmers intellect would enable him to clear the decks of the rabid left wing of the party which won the war in the 30s and consolidated by Atlee and Bevin in the post war years but fighting the same but of no modern day value principles. The last election proved the electorate have moved on from these out of date doctrines.
However back to my disapointment in Starmer , his opening adress was to politic the Corona Virus situation and blame the Government. No doubt there is blame to be levied but that is for when the crisis is over . Undoubtedly the left wing has forced him into this position and he hasn't got the courage or clout to clear the decks of those who will drag the Labour party into oblivion. If he includes Long Bailey in his shadow cabinet that will herald the death knell toll.
Although I have never been a Labour Party supporter and in fact quite the reverse I do believe a moderate party well led is the conscience of this country and a moderator for the well being of the majority of this Country.
When your life is comfortable (albeit from a council house background) humanity demands a care and concern for others less fortunate .
Apologies all for a rant off topic but sincerely held views.

However it would seem that the Lomg Bailey end of the Party have suceeded in prejudicing Labours return to a credible
Sorry to add to your post but BROWN CREATED THE DROP IN PRICE BEFORE SALE BY ANNOUNCING HIS INTENTION PRIOR.
The much vaunted prudent and fiscally competent Chancellor who destroyed the core manufacturing industry of this country in favour of pyramid selling of the City Banks. Not a fan of Blair but he was dead right in that he absolutely did not want Brown to succeed him Sadly others thought otherwise and Labour has been a basket case ever since. I have never voted Labour but am strong believer that this Country need a strong opposition with policies that appeal to the modern day country populous. If Starmer brings Long Bailey into his cabinet and isn't brave enough to clear the decks as Boris did then
the party will be too busy ripping each other apart to be a credible alternate voice.
Sorry rant over, Too much Rioja on the terrace in the evening sun.

NFP 701,000 AND PMI 34.5. Not unanticipated of course but figure only to mid March. USA indices propped by Trumps statement re Saudi production cut (still to see) oil majors obvious rebounding somewhat. Futures still down about 5 bais points.Everything a bit lack lustre at present although CEY in positive territory at 124.3 bid
Isolated Bob
Well played Tony. I would have set limit order at 121.7 buy . 120 a definite buffer of late but the market will know that and put buy orders in to the book at 121 odd. Your point on gain very true. Compound 1% gain per day and see where you are at the end of the year. The trick of course is maintaining 1% gain per day.
Will maintain my full allocation in CEY and miners perhaps trading when looks failsafe. LOL

Hi Sotolo
I had equal concerns as you regarding the direction the new CEO would take us but well comforted that with Toro he resisted extreme pressure to take Toro to market which at the time most would have succumbed to. This guy is in my opinion the real deal and I think will take us to the golden flip flop bash where I really look forward to meeting all here in person. First case of Tattinger on me, subject of course to a levy for a charity of choice.

Sorry Tibbs vino finger interceded and hit post button too early
Many of your views are not mine but I will defend your rights to express them ad infinitum. Hopefully they will moderate the more extreme views in society and in the end achieve the same goal to care for those on the lowest spoke of fortune wheel.
Keep safe and continue posting your views based upon care for others.

Hi JEPh
How perceptive of you. I must confess I had not considered his side of the equation in that light. Your second comment spot on . City analysts will digest this over time and broker forecasts will be interesting in the extreme over the next few weeks.
The likes of Blackrock will more than appreciate this.
Watch the RNS over the next 7 days . What few City contacts who still speak to me have always cautioned previously regarding Management at CEY.This probably addresses those concerns. Never ever underestimate City City opinion right or wrong.
