I find the US markets incredibly frustrating. It will crash at some point soon, but its up down up down. Just better to get it over with and crash then we can move on. At least Europe generally just weakens, consistent.

Market wont care in the slightest. All market cares about is what is Covid doing, whats Trump doing, how many people have got it etc.

Ask yourselves this. In the markets where it has been banned, has it stopped those markets plummeting?

Even if it's banned markets will still plummet. Shorting is a symptom not a cause. Can't blame you looking for optimism, but better to focus on market fundamentals rather than government action or lack of.

It's not shorting that's dropping markets by 10% a day. It's pension funds and large investment houses liquidating holdings. If something they hold drops they liquidate assets to cover margin calls etc and it balloons. Whilst shorting in general is despicable in my view, this obsession with shorting being the cause now is misguided.

You joke, but their is growing thought that oil may well hit single digits if not zero. No one needs it if nothings running.

I think it's inevitable sub 20. I was on a call with energy traders today and to a man they were all bearish and expect continued selling. Honestly couldn't tell you a bottom target, but if more and more countries shut all businesses then it could well reach levels none of us have ever seen before or likely will again in our lifetimes.

Oil is not even close to finding a bottom. People need to realise the world has shut up shop. There's no oil demand, and supply is on full tap. Get a grip people and understand the reality of the fundamentals. No one knows where the bottom is for oil but it is nowhere near there yet.

Personally I don't think its driven by shorting. Its market wide, there's not enough short interest in the world to drop markets so brutally. Will be funds, pensions pots, individuals just liquidating.

Low 20's bbl is pretty much a certainty for me, and likely high teens if there's no aviation and limited transport sector demand for an extended period. If it lasts at this level briefly then could well survive, however if it becomes the new norm then its good night Vienna for Tullow, and a whole lot of other oilers.

Whilst I love your optimism, even if the saudis and russians reach an agreement the market is fundamentally screwed for the foreseeable. Before I get accused or deramping I bought at 8p this morning, so I'm willing to have a cheeky punt on being wrong ad would love it if I am.

Its not deramping, its simply stating that the oil market is in a once in a generation downturn that will inevitably cause some companies to go bust. Its an individuals own choice to decide who they will be and invest accordingly. I just dont think its right to assume a company that will get bought just because it is cheap. It may do, but it may not. It's 50/50 and high risk.

Dream world. I hope it happens for you, I really do. More likely scenario is going bust and assets just being hoovered up. That's the bet though isnt it. At the right price it's worth a pure speculative punt, but here and now it's a sell all day long, as is the whole oil sector.

No one is going to entertain buying out an oiler in the middle of a devastated oil market,they will just wait for bankruptcies and get assets on the cheap. Anyone thinking there will be a takeover at multiple valuations is living in a pure fantasy world.

Why would money flow into oil? There's no aviation sector in the whole world right now, transport is heavily down, the world's shutting its doors, and the Saudis have turned the taps fully on. It's the perfect storm.
