Re "beats me how its all holding up"
Perhaps the fact that little of the 20% of the oil passing through the SoH was ever going to the US helps. Perhaps the fact that the US having so much oil it exports it helps. Maybe the fact that in times of stress the US dollar being the reserve currency rises as buyers know a nation floating on oil, food basket to the world, greatest military ever, a fully armed and mostly loyal population would be hard to ensnare.
Add to that the President Trump is actually doing something about the major problems of the US massive debt and encouraging businesses to relocate there, and putting tariffs on imports, making such more costly to the Americans to switch, GIVEN TIME, demand back for home produced steel, chips etc.
This will create work, keep the money in the US, reduce benefits, create better societies rather than just take his paycheck, do nothing, except watch the US debt grow every higher to the delight of the green eyed watching world.
President Trump is rich enough to ensure he, and all his family will be living in massive homes, heated pools, drive the biggest cars, jet anywhere in the world, except Iran, and live a wonderful life whether fuel is ten buck a gallon or one thousand, but the rest of American won't fare so well, so he is trying to do the right thing for his electorate and country, as he said, he would, but he never promised the hanger on'ers an meal ticket, or to defend them, for the US have done enough to help the starving millions, to help save Europe, twice, and the thanks is just like any long term 'welfare aid' people just 'expect' it, demand it as 'their right' that America owes them a good life. It doesn't.
President Trump has wised up, seen how spongers breaking into the states are costly and often trouble, he sees that being nice just gets taken for granted and abused, so now other countries will have to defend themselves, feed themselves and find their own energy solutions, or buy it at the full market price from the USA, for he is looking after his electorate as a leader should, not the worlds nere do wells.
The policy will take time, it will cost more to implement than just doing nothing, or writing a harsh letter as we are used to seeing with our gutless political parties answer to all our ills, as they are seemingly 'nice' but as our society breaks under the strain of 'being nice' let's see how our children and grandchildren fare under 'nice' Governments weak, wishy washy woke policies.
Time will show what policy works best for the electorate unless you are a 'taker' then imo, the soft approach is doomed to failure.
Lloyds can drop much faster than it ever rises, so the s.p is no barometer imo.
