It is a great relief to read some sensible, informed comment after the petulant rant by Rbrand. To declare my hand: professionally I did PR in travel during the 1990s. Like many others I looked on in blank amazement at the outdated mindset of Thos Cook. They were still doing the 1950s Grand Tour then. The company was an anachronism floundering around trying to find its place in the world. Fankhauser and HG have dragged the company into the 21st C.
TCG does not automatically deserve life after near death but to my mind it is doing certain things well - one of them is PR. Fank's moves after the Greece toxic gas debacle was masterful and finally compassionate.Thos Cook are getting a much better hearing in the media. Rbrand clearly lacks the ability to disseminate information. ****ging off a CEO is pointless and the criticism of one individual is baseless. This is a work in progress and TCG has the brand recognition which will definitely feed into marketing strategy once all the house work is done. I am expecting prestige, customer service, product delivery. Other UK brands have found a way back - Barbour for instance. Rbrand - you have the intellect of a snail.
