looking at it I quite fancy another run at the HWM for AHL over the next 3/4 weeks, the markets should be a bit calmer, it looks like the US can deal with ISIS from afar, the Ukrainian government appear to be winning now the rebels have less Russian support and the peace talks in Gaza are "progressing". Translated I think that means we will see a nice rise in global markets which AHL should ride...

Fair play dduck, I understand your concern. We are a leveraged play on the world markets, so will always drop a bit when things are rough (like now), I'm impressed with AHL but it's just typical that we get within fractions of the HWM and fall back, almost like it's not meant to be! I have faith that come Q4 we will be back up there although I will admit that it's based on gut feeling rather than any scientific fact...

We are deflating faster than my tyre last weekend, why? what is causing this? AHL is steadying, the other funds I assume are largely balancing themselves out, why???

I suspect it was v long on the US and maybe due to it's size it's not nimble enough to switch direction when necessary. I'm not too worried as long as we don't see that sort of loss in a placid market because if you are going to beat the indices / wider market you will always get caught out by an unexpected event like last week. My only hope is that it's not so dim-witted that it's now gone short of the market and gets spanked by the recovery.

Thinking about it, I reckon yesterday and today have more to do with the Dow having a shocker than leaked results, EMG is a bit of a proxy for world markets so if a major index takes a tumble we are bound to follow (unless we are short as per 2008/9!). Lets hope that we can steadily climb back up over August...

Fair comment, my only wish would be to know where this chatroom / bulletin board is where these rumours go round. If they're smart it won't be their Bloomberg or Reuters terminals so it's got to be somewhere that's accessible to us too... slightly different slant of well if you can't beat them join them but I agree with you, the market is bend as which is why I'm moving to funds myself. (I want to see 140p here though before I trade in my 20k shares...)

It's just ludicrous, if you ask me, this is a great point to buy in if you are investing, if you are looking for a good trade / to make some quick money then good luck! Fundamentally I see 130-150p as a long term goal, when will we get there...?????

I think it's the fact that gross management fees, performance fees and total revenue are so much smaller than last year. What Manny seems to have done is paired the company right back to a profitable core to grow it agsin. I reckon the market are taking this to mean the company is smaller with less potential for future growth...

Hi Fatlad, all sounds good now let's see how the market reacts!! If it's rational we'll recover all of yesterday's and then some... Fingers crossed! (Although sometimes I think the market would react better an RNS of Timmy Mallett singing about bikini's than actual good news!)

I wouldn't pay attention to buys vs sells, it take two people to execute a trade so whether it's a buy or a sell is irrelevant really as someone is always buying and another is always selling, it's just at what end of the bid/offer range at that point it's executed at. I'm much more interested in volume and a regularly traded / liquid / incremental share that doesn't have big jumps in it which is why I've been so happy with EMG in the last few weeks (let's ignore today, lol!)

by the way, given that the Dow is down 175 points so far this afternoon this could be a lot worse!

sorry, been in a meeting. I wouldn't pay attention to Soc Gen, they are a market making for options etc, they are more a proxy for what the wider professional investors think and none of their positions are for themselves. Personally I reckon theres a rumour going round that profits or AUM will be x% less than expected causing the "hotter" money to go running. Unless you are day trading this I wouldn't worry too much, 119p is still a lot better than we were 3/4 months ago!!

I reckon we are in this silly game now of expected results against what they'll actually be. We all know they'll be good it Horwood is the question and how much of that has been priced in with this cracking and stable rise over the last few weeks...

You sound like you don't have faith, therefore sell. Although my recommendation would be to sell £21k and put it into a decent fund then keep £9k here incase it hits £1.50 if you think there's a chance. That way, if we dive you are only losing profit not capital. The fund (ideally a portfolio of funds too) diversifies you more which sounds more appropriate to your attitude to risk to me.

I'm now regretting my post last Thursday... sorry!
