Figes,
Germanium doesn’t often get the spotlight, but it’s classed as a critical mineral by the EU and US, with supply dominated by China. That’s why we’ve seen periods of export controls and a market that can spike quickly — prices have doubled in recent years, currently trading in the range of US$2,500–3,000/kg depending on form and purity.
For Rome, the June 26th update confirmed that samples from MADD016 and MADD017 have been selected for germanium assays. Results haven’t been released yet, but it’s interesting that management are looking at it — showing they see the potential for Bisie North to deliver not just tin, zinc and copper, but possibly germanium as well.
Still early days, but any positive Ge assays would add a strategic angle and broaden RMR’s appeal given how few juniors offer exposure to this market, but I think we would have heard by now if anything material was detected.
