It is unlikely most of his nukes are even viable. The equipment of the Russian army has been revealed to be very poorly maintained and not fit for purpose. The fissile material will have decayed and very unlikely upgraded since Soviet days, and critical components dry jointed over and rusted over time. I would be surprised if half the relays or contact switches would move or make an electrical connection. As with the perception of the mighty army, the perception of the nukes is not justified. There will be some viable nukes, but it might be less than one in a hundred. And should there finally be a successful detonation, the decrepit state might well reduce the yield 90, 95% I happen to know rather a lot about those warheads.

The ICBMs are probably the best maintained and most likely viable with routinely upgrades fissile material. But the response from the west? I can guarantee, all the US and UK warheads are viable and maintained for maximum yield. There will be one guaranteed loser from a nuclear war, it will be Russia. The west may take some heavy damage in some cities, probably a lot less than you see in Mariapol though and most of it due to fire damage. It'll be a high casualty exchange but nothing like the Armageddon the likes of CND promised. Perhaps in the 80s, but certainly not today. And of course, ICBMs have to get past modern western air defences. Russia will be dust and deleted.

If May 9th parade is the victory parade, and everything goes to a Russian plan, there will need to be at least 10 days to relocate and cleanup back to Moscow [including a rehearsal]. From a cease fire there will be a few days 'mopping up' trying to cover atrocities and for a bit of looting. I suspect there will not be a face to face meeting so there will be say four days of trying to organise a meeting before abandoning it, so an agreement in principle is probably in the window around the 20-22 April. That gives from today a couple more days for Russia to prepare a major assault on the eastern flank and possibly from the sea. Then one week of intense activity designed to secure the land corridor as a non-negotiable territory gain. By the 20th I would imagine Russia will claim its victories, leave a permanent battalion to defend its new territory and withdraw as if the war is finished. Ukraine will either sign the treaty or be ignored and any further activity from Ukraine to take back the east treated as new acts of war by Ukraine against Russia and then post May 9th the chemical and possibly nukes used against Ukraine on the basis that Ukraine was starting a new war.

In reality I think Russia is going to have a terrible experience in the East, I expect very heavy losses in the sea [Ukraine is getting Harpoon missiles] and Russia might have to false flag an event to use chemical weapons in a desperate last ditch attempt to get any victory. I think it is going to get very messy and if Putin is not replaced soon after May 9th then a nato force will inevitably go in to push Russian forces back to Russia proper. Nato may get dragged into the Donbas for some yar, although it could be a UN zone.

This article gives an indication as to why NOT taking out the Russian whilst they are weak is a significant tactical error. It should be presumed further military action and using nuclear weapons are on the Russian agenda.

As wrong as it maybe that the Russians are subjected to some sort of hypnosis, whilst it is in effect we mustn't allow ourselves to be sacrificed for some noble gesture. We need nato to declare all out war and go in guns blazing and crush them to dust. Forget about nuclear retaliation against nato conventional forces, Russia is going to use nukes anyway, whilst Putin is around. He has Thyroid cancer and has come to terms with his death and now intends to leave his name in the history books in big letters for all to see.

again, this cut n paste that the US has an involvement in this. Since the Crimea invasion this has been an EU led showcase which has blown up in its face. Just like with the Balkans, the EU just cannot manage these big boy issues, not least because it tries to engineer the situation for gain. This is a massive EU co.ckup with merely peripheral input from the US.

This is becoming quite revealing. There are a number of posters who are copy and pasting some jingoistic one liners from past anti this and that campaign groups. These posters then try to expand and engage clearly demonstrating they haven't the first clue or any understanding of the history or facts involved. They can only be trolls directed to try and mislead and create division.

Again with this USA thing. It is Germany and Europe who deliberately set up the dependency on Russian gas and oil. They did so against the USA and it has backfired in a spectacular fashion.

We should have gone in full war and taken out all Russian forces. We could eliminate all the nukes and military and rid the world of a terrible aggressor. The war with Ukraine has exposed the Russian army to be hopeless and woefully overstated. Standing back and not taking advantage is a major tactical error that will come back on the world in decade to come. A principle aggressor could have been eliminated. We would all have been the better for that, all over the world.

Except, I only respond to the Putin apologists. Of course, it would be very convenient for the Russian propagandists to have all the corrections and rebuttals removed. Itis difficult for some to understand, this concept of an answer back. One message or 15 years in prison does not apply here. Here, you will be called out and answered. The claim the Russians do not use this weapon is sourced from............ Russia who initially claimed a success hitting the target. The Ukrainian version is actually upgraded which is why the two missiles in the picture can be immediately identified Russian not Ukrainian.
