Crumbs, yes I make it 3 being presented by Scancell, A212, A201 and A185. If I remember correctly there were a couple of others last year which included some Scancell tech. but presented by others - Nottingham Trent was one.

Anyway, really good spot and look forward to seeing the content!

You may be spot on, could easily be then or even earlier. Seems likely that they started screening patients towards the end of August and it's just down to pure luck now as to whether or not any of those screened meet the recruitment criteria. They can do no more than secure consent and then screen the patient.

I guess what really matters though is that the trial is up and running. It really is finally happening and we now know much more about it. Has been hard at times to believe Scancell would ever even get to this stage so am happy to watch and see now and it'll be interesting to hear what Scancell may have to say at the AGM regarding opening of more UK centres.

Plus, not sure many appreciate what a huge commitment is involved for patients:-

'Over the 2-year treatment period, the patient will visit the hospital 14 times in the first 6 months and then every 3 weeks'

So that's 14 visits within the first 6 months and then every 3 weeks for 2 years. I have so much respect for patients who are willing to take part in clinical trials.

Not sure whether you've noticed but you can expand the study description section by clicking on the show detailed description tab and that brings up:-

'Before treatment starts and after consent has been given, all patients will undergo screening tests for up to 4 weeks to ensure the patient is eligible to take part. For screening, the patient will need to undergo tissue typing, a melanoma tumour biopsy will be required if an adequate sample for testing was not previously performed, an eye examination, blood and urine samples taken for clinical laboratory tests, pregnancy status (for female patients only), tests of their immune functions, a physical examination including their vital signs, performance status and an ECG, a CT scan, skin fold thickness measurement, and medical history collection.

You think there's some conspiracy by big US pharma to cut out foreign competition? !!

Life and death decisions will be taken as a result of these tests and disclaimer or not, I'd be amazed if you found any physicians of any nationality willing to make those decisions based on data, albeit excellent data in just 200 or so patients from a single study centre.

The assay has to be proven through robust clinical testing but the timelines might make more sense if you look at the process here. It's not just the capture of the circulating tumour cell, but also what you do with that cell that's important. The research announced today involved capturing CTCs and then extracting RNA for analysis of gene expression. In this case they identified a panel of 12 genes but further research may well lead to changes to that gene panel. It takes time to optimise these assays and prepare for clinical trials - 3 years is actually pretty quick.

In the meantime, don't forget that Angle also have the partnership with Qiagen and I believe they are working on prostate cancer.

BioNTech have had a very busy period, preparations for the IPO would have been taking up a great deal of management time and focus and as you say Crumbs, meanwhile they have been continuing to do deals. Once their stock is admitted to NASDAQ there'll be a whole host of additional regulatory demands and IR will be a completely different ball game - especially in the US. Going to be very interesting to watch the Company evolve and just hope they take Scancell with them!!

Looks like they made a strategic decision to raise privately before the IPO - it was only in June that they completed a round of private equity funding for $325m. On top of that, over the last year they've had an $80m investment from Sanofi, a deal with Pfizer with $120m up front with another $300m in near term milestones and $55m from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Possibly others I've missed but I guess all combine to reduce the amount required from the IPO which won't harm the valuation.

Haven't looked at all of their other deals but quite possible they are nearing the stage of milestones being triggered too which obviously adds to the pot.

'The research team found that the presence of CTCs in pre-biopsy blood samples were indicative of the presence of aggressive prostate cancer, and efficiently and non-invasively predicted the later outcome of biopsy results.'

Good stuff.

OK, not sure how I can explain this any better.

The market cap of a company is not the same measurement as the market value - 2 completely different things. So a fair comparison would be the market cap of Redx versus that of Scancell or alternatively, the value of the deal with Loxo for the sale of the asset versus the predicted value of the sale of any of Scancell's products.

Market cap valuations for early stage bios are based largely on sentiment and when sentiment improves, the SP will move - simple as that. I think we're actually trying to make the same point - market cap doesn't necessarily reflect true value.

As for whether the market had it wrong with Redx? Actually the market probably had it spot on.

I simply pointed out that you're comparing market cap with the sale price of an asset - 2 completely different valuations. I was trying to highlight the underlying value that may be hiding behind Scancell's pathetic share price performance but yet again, another post that is intended to be positive and immediately pounced upon by you and portrayed as negative.

You can't compare the valuation of a company through market cap with the valuation achieved for the sale of IP, they're two completely different things. When Redx sold their BTK inhibitor (one of several products in its pipeline) to Loxo for £40m their market cap was just half of that at around £20m. In fact, from memory, it was actually zero because I think they were in administration at the time.

The $8b was for the entire company and covered the whole pipeline. That included TRK inhibitor, larotrectinib which already has FDA and EMA approval across all solid tumours, oh and of course a very promising BTK inhibitor bought from Redx Pharma at fire sale prices!
