Everyone has their own risk threshold so you really need to research as far as you can before committing so your risk is aligned to it. If you are a beginner, I suggest you stick to less volatile shares to get to grips with the basics. You may not make big gains, but neither will you make big losses and you will learn as you trade. Whatever you do, don't listen to 90% of what you read on these boards. There are some who offer a good insight and can explain their reasoning, but others just throw figures around with no backup whatsoever and give themselves away. You will quickly spot them. I am invested here, and do consider it a very high potential, but that is of course a decision made on my own risk attitude. When I started investing, I invested small amounts initially and built that over time as my knowledge and confidence grew. I see risk and gambling as completely different. Many don't.
