From Gary Nice - Head of Talent Acquisition at Saga. From LinkedIn
I haven’t shown my face around these parts for a while so here goes - a fantastic day today welcoming 24 new starters to Saga.
Every new colleague welcomed in small, covid safe groups throughout the day and all set up for home working by our brilliant IT crew. Welcome everyone!
Yes, they are our grounds and yes that is a sea view and yes the sun is shining. Not a bad office to return to after so long.
If you are looking for your next challenge and want to do the best work of your life then you know what to do
Jack - Cut the ****y s**t unless your have anything decent to contribute. We welcome everyone on this board...positive or negative, but not just random slating. Get a grip.
Horse - 2022 at 100%. See message below.
Hi ****, yeh working on 100% for 2022, we shouldn’t need isolation cabins by then but if it comes to it we will work through that nearer the time. As far as we’ve publicised it’s the first UK cruises that will be 80% but I would predict like you say the rest of possibly 2021 will be at the reduced capacity but nothing confirmed passed the UK cruises yet
I’ve asked the question Horse
Banbury what I don’t understand when it comes to Tour is why it is so loss making?
They are running a tour operator’Titan’ but don’t own planes, hotels, or other fixed assets.
Essentially all they do is have staff to take bookings, do the admin and general other operational stuff.
They book flights through 3rd parties just direct customer could do. They employ ‘Ground Handlers’ in each country, who look after everything abroad and the operation abroad. So effectively if everything stops like it has, where is the big outlay? If that makes sense?
Welcome back Horse and congrats on kicking Covid ass! Excellent!
Totally agree. Sagas biggest bookings period is September and October, when the general market is January/February. That falls in very nicely as when more and more countries have caught up by then, confidence returns, and International Cruising especially is good to go.
I predict some caution still by the over 50’s till around July for absolute clarity but know knows, could be wrong in that because, there the most keen to get away. All Cruises will be fully booked come August IMO. GLA
Many thanks Doofus. Wonderful to see you back. We have missed you. Your insight is in invaluable as always. Don’t leave it so long next time.
Seen as Saga has been dragged in with all other Travel Stock, next week seems a big one for indoor hospitality in general.
I expect Wednesday there will be the usual leaks/drip feeding to the press on the Traffic Light system and indoor hospitality in general, followed up by confirmation on Friday in the House of Commons. Could be Thursday but the Bank Holiday has thrown it.
Not sure how much this will jump? Every time it hits 386/387 there seems to be a Setanta dump. Anyway, everything looks rosey with patience. GLA
Last summer I was delivering supposedly frozen and chilled food in a transit van, with no fridge and freezer, to the old and vulnerable that had been out of the freezer over 2/3 hours. Now I’m suddenly recording every temperature and if I do t I’m in trouble!
I’m a share holder in Saga and Whitbread. I’ve been in the travel industry for 25 years. I still own a travel agency now. When Covid and lockdown kicked in I had to get a job, to pay bills, and found one in Home Delivery for Morrison’s.
Having held mid management positions at Thomas Cook and Hays, run my own businesses as well as others in the last 25 years.
I can honestly tell you, (as a business person) Morrison’s Home Delivery is an absolute disgrace. In fact the whole business seems rotten. Employees treated like dogs. Sometimes I look and think ‘how is this business surviving’. Shambolic from top to bottom. I’ve been offered cheap shares under the share scheme, and wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.
It’s lucky they have a good PR/social media team to make everything looks rosey! And they are some kind of heroes.
All UK cruises will be at 80% we know that. They will probably take bookings on all further forward Cruises to 80% capacity, until they get the ‘nod’, then fill the remaining 20%. Easy.
P.S. I have a contact on the Global Travel Taskforce. Cruising around the UK, ie, ‘Indoor Hospitality’ was giving the green ages ago behind the scenes to enable them to put them on sale, and now sold out.
Until it is announced next week publicly from BJ it seems most indoor hospitality shares are in a holding pattern.
Thanks Jonnie
UK staycations is massive this year, which is good for the hotels, as most people have opted to stay and holiday in the UK.
IMO international travel will be limited. It will be just the main holiday Mediterranean hotspots initially to keep the likes of Jet2, Easyjet, Ryanair and TUI going, because without this summer it would be goodnight Vienna for them.
All the best.
Hi guys. Just bought in here. I have a large holding in Saga mainly.
Saga has a 6 fully booked up UK cruises before international cruises in August, but I’m waiting for a bounce, when indoor hospitality is given the green light next week, as both shares fall into that category.
I’m hoping I’ve bought in at the lowest after the results! At just under £33???
The government is expected to announce the destinations in the green, amber and red categories of the traffic-light system towards the end of next week, with a partial resumption of international travel due from May 17.
Anyone’s thoughts on a bounce next week for indoor hospitality? Cheers

For the Green List/Traffic light system to be announced next week, allowing 2 weeks for preparation for Operators and Customers. I’ve got in a few today to get in early. Seems a lot in holding patterns waiting. DYOR.
