I think hydrogen is the big winner for bp. If the tech / cost allows it to take the lead over ev. I know bp have bought the US petrol station chain recently, but cannot help thinking that with ev charging points, these can be put in anywhere, in your local retail park, roadside starbucks etc, so there will be less need to go to a petrol station type location that bp currently owns, to get your fuel. Hydrogen vehicles and green energy production should/ could be the big winner.
On buybacks, I think that it is partly being done as in the long term bp will generate less profit per share compared to the good old days, I think that using cash now to shrink the ownership of the company, will support the company share price but not necessarily see it shoot upwards. I've bought in as I think the company is a cash making machine over the next year, or two,and there is potential for a good rise from these levels.
