IQE doesn't operate in the same market as AMD. It provides compound semi-conductor substrates. Something AMD might move toward using in the future as chip technology advances.

Agreed. Can't see a big premium for this one. Global headwinds are hurricane force and this is before the biggest tech bubble mankind has inflated so far bursts.

Can't read the article Prion25 but the title says it all, "UK ‘risks’ losing IQE over delays to semiconductor strategy."

The inability to organise a p*ss up in a brewery is often a Tory, or even more so now Reform, attribute but not in this case. Companies like IQE need supprting through the tough times in order for Britain to have a say in the technology of the future.

I'm starting to feel positive about ULTRARAM and that commercialisation might be imminent. I realise that the articles currently doing the rounds are based on the announcement of June the 16th and that there is no new information out there but this one from TechRadar for example sounds confident that mass production is just round the corner and sings the praises of the new technology -

This one, on Tom's Hardware, even names IQE which is something I've never seen in connection to any of the foundational technologies the company works on -

If it does take off I just hope IQE retains it's part of the IP and it's place in te production process. I've been investing for a long time now and lost count of the number of great British inventions that have been shemelessly stolen by US, South Korean and Chinese tech firms without the originating company getting their fair share of the payoff.

It's involved in many ways - ULTRARAM as stated, photonic chips and the most mature photonic connectivity in data centres.

I think the thing you're overlooking hxulcolrdoh is that IQE works at the very start of the product development lifecycle in advanced techonologies. When progress on something like Ultraram is announced we're very ulikely to see commercial impacts for 5 to 10 years minimum. You want to look that far back to see what might be contributing now. Once a technology gets there, IQE's part is very much commoditised. High volume low margin. Depending on the product in question the risks are that another company will step in and take market share (this tends not to happen as the barriers to enrty are too high) or the product doesn't take off in the end (this seems to happen a lot). IQE hasn't reached it's potential recently because it hasn't got those long term predictions quite right and achieved the volume necessary to make a profit. As alwys, plenty of technologies they are involved with are maturing now so we live in hope.

True dorfan. Everyone will have their own opinion about the long term direction of the market. Personally, I think platinum is dead and this is a fake out. In the meantime, until SA is sold, JLP is capturing the value of this rise.

The u-turn has already been u-turned (semi conductor specific tarrifs coming in a month or so). The US sprials ever downwards.

Good to see the surplus being tackled as that pile's getting very high. Would be interesting to understand something of the profitability at these prices though. Might well just be clearing down the mound a bit and having something in place in case prices rise.
