The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
"What's the snide remark for?"
======================================
Happy, not a fan of Mike Myers huh?!....me neither.
" Don't believe all the scare mongering in the news."
================================================
Personally I don't know who to believe. Usually things are never as black as the blackest predictions and never as rosy as the rosier end of the spectrum.....50 shades of gray.
"BP will spend roughly $16m more by 2030 split equally between oil and gas, and renewables"
===========================================================================
Ahh, the curse of Austin Powers!
Could it not be shorters rushing to close their positions
To expect a share to behave differently than it has done in the past seems a little optimistic to me. Like going into Homebase and complaining that they don't sell fresh fruit...."sorry, sir, this is a hardware store, we can sell you a power drill but if you want an orange go to the green grocers next door".
LGEN is about income, other investments are more suitable for growth imo.
PS I wouldn't mind a bit of growth, just I'm not expecting much.
Pessimism turned to optimism in the two shakes of a lambs tail....nowt so queer as folk!
"ITV accused of Harassing Nicola's family."
===============================================
I imagine it was some junior reporter trying to make a name for themselves....or Jeremy Clarkson trying to get publicity for himself!
"..... With am income share such as this the dividend is set to grow by 5% for the forseeable, so 7.8% this year, 8.2% next & 8.6 % after that. (all assuming 250P)"
==========================================================
Nelly, I'm not sure 5% dividend growth 'for the foreseeable' future is written in stone. There would come a point where the dividend isn't covered sufficiently...unless it is accompanied by increased profits/EPS.
I suppose one option would be to increase share buyback....if the SP undervalues the company then it must be a valid way to increase EPS by cancelling shares.
How do you know it was a sell?
560,0000 @ 152 looks like a buy to me at 16:35
ANy reason why?
Ā£1.50 isn't a million miles away. If ITVX takes off and the value in the STudio business can be unleashed then it is more than realistic. But I'm not sure about this year.
The erosion of capital is the real danger for LGEN if there isn't any or much growth. It is an issue without doubt. Management are 'happy' to pay out a large dividend - probably because the markets expects it from LGEN - they get their pay & bonuses plus healthy dividends on their share options, and they don't have to worry about taking any risk in pursuit of growth. Big dividend can sometimes mean the management don't know how to invest for growth....perhaps they don't even have a plan for growth. Happy to collect their pay & build up their pension pots whilst keeping the status quo.
The LDI thing was a bit of excitement for a change....albeit not exactly positive. It showed that even boring safe bets can have hidden risks....even though LGEN wasn't impacted directly this time.
It's a form of dark magic!
No seriously, I expect it is because the LSE platform cannot handle numbers greater than Ā£1m and rounds it to 1 significant figure. ie Ā£3,69,810 to 1 sf is Ā£4m.
OR it's a conspiracy whereby 'shorters' are secretly paying over the odds to cover their losses but keeping them in 'dark pools' to prevent the SP from rising.
Take your pick.....personally I think it is something to do with solar flares.
Ex-dividend date is an important date. So it is right to have it confirmed by people in the know....or to have a reliable source for that information.
It is a bit of a bugbear of mine that some companies tell you the amount of the dividend at the start of the report but fail to tell you the dates (ex-div & payment) until page 3,999 of the report. Nothing worse than having to trawl through thousands of pages of figures to get to the information.....and then they say: "....The 2022 full year dividend of 5.0p per ordinary share will be paid on 31 March 2023 to the shareholders on the Share Registrar on 24 February 2023"
I never have understood the relationship between ex-div date & registration date....perhaps I shouldn't invest in shares!
PS Please nobody try to explain....I am happy in my ignorance. All I want is the ex-div date, I can work with that. Just wish it was in first paragraph of report, in bold, extra large font size & underlined. Is it too much to ask?
"@ Bold Eagle - Hey there B.E long time, trust your well and in good profit."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi MrW, more bald than bold unfortunately. Good to see the quality contributors on this board have kept the faith....hopefully making a quick profit where they can. Popped in to have a look after the reaction to the results. I missed the opportunity at 168 alas....too fearful!
Good to hear some people timed it right.
"people who ask "When is ex-div date" really should not be share trading !"

What an absurd comment.
Just reading an article on chatGPT & Microsoft (dated 2nd Feb) that references a FT article:
"Rather than spend money overhauling the engine Microsoft has said it has plans to use OpenAI's technology to find new ways of presenting information to its users while they are inside other applications and reducing the need to use a search engine"
What this means for the Bing & PERI relationship I don't know. But it looks to me like there is no guarantee that PERI will benefit from AI as much as some investors hope.
I have no skin in the game with PERI and probably never will. Also what Microsoft say and what they actually do are sometimes different. It is just as possibile that Bing is fully integrated with ChatGPT & AI to the major benefit of PERI.
Haggis ad infinitum!
I have increased my price target......from 260 to 261......tomorrow I might increase it to 262
I don't think Google will take the threat of chatGPT lying down. They have a very strong AI development team at DeepMind. I have read that Google may be worried that an AI chatBot integrated browser could severely damage the revenue from their search engine.
