Hi poker, the necessity is, UK plc is the consumer in many ways, necessity is UK plc cannot choose not to buy energy, neither can the consumers, squeezing them with interest rate increases will not change that.
Increases in costs are therefore not caused by consumer demand. Impacting consumers ability to afford it will not help the situation.
Prices are increasing due to external pressures & that’s not just putins war, in some cases it’s not even economic good sense (selling fuel destined for Europe) to other countries for less.
Because the inflation pressure is not from consumer demand, trying to reduce consumers demand isn’t going to work, that’s the necessity bit, there’s little consumer choice here, either from the retail or wholesale side.
You can’t increase supply when the pumps are deliberately turned off, by reducing the amount of money consumers have.
