Nige, helping to fund the war in Ukraine isnt charity, it is national interest & national security
For the one person you’ve seen driving away from a food bank in a BMW, you do understand these things are regularly manipulated? Did you manage to check if was her bosses car or borrowed from someone else? Or stolen ? (Might have been mine)
Even if she was playing the system, would you really want to see people who really need it starve so you can “get “ the one you think is undeserving
Do you like Mo Farah? Lovely chap. With a Home Secretary thinking like you, he would have had all his potential wasted by being shipped out to Rowanda.
It’s criminal some horrid people take advantage, but it’s an absolute travesty to not help those who deserve it or Need & it’s immoral to deny this help to the majority just to “get at “ the vast minority.
Yep I agree.
I’ve always supported the right side of politics, (not recently ) have been very fortunate & always happy to pay a large tax bill, on the understanding this money is used wisely, helps less fortunate & keeps me safe.
Although I can see this money isn’t used sensibly any more, I still recognise it needs to be paid.
The pendulum has swung too far to the right, country needs to see a huge change in direction, from a selfish point of view, without a reset, no one’s living standard or security is safe. Desperation creates desperate people, this makes for bad politics and even more dangerous streets.
Nige, that’s straight out of the daily mail, of course it’s nonsense.
Food banks are generally accessed by desperate people, the kind of desperation that shouldn’t exist in this country, the need for food banks is a disgrace, a point of shame for us all, not an argument against decency or compassion.
Hi Nige, yes Vodafone entering the fray (if it is one) for TT would be very good news.
I would like to see it happen & for Vodafone to get them. It does feel like Vodafone are liking their dept wounds right now, I know they are linked to a merger with 3, but that seems like a much easier, cheaper ( to integrate) & of course delivers potential for cost saving. Buying TT might not fit that description?
I really think VOD buying Libery Global assets in Europe hurt them in the short term
Poker, this would obviously be part of the equation, VM will want to understand this first I would guess. Suspicion is speeds & tv upgrade would be compelling. I think O2 already do the mobile ? (Not 100% sure of that).
I don’t think any bt share holder should assume a VM/O2 takeover of TT won’t work.
It’s looking more and more like Vodafone uk are being left behind
We Know BT is using external consultants to bolster its defence from a takeover
I’m sitting here thinking industrial unrest would make it much harder for Interested parties to access finance?
The Rumours of Talk Talk take over by Virgin is very bad news for BT. Virgin have already proved (with Vodafone hosting VIrgin Mobile) they are prepared to “buy out” contractual obligations, in this case with Openreach.
This means several things, VM can take business away from OR, which will weaken their business case & they can learn what it means to plan “wholesale” activities, moving all TT customers they can to cable, likely to be 70 to 80% of existing TT customers. But of course O2 have availability in several ways for offset.
Buying TT will initiate all kinds of ingenuity (necessity being the mother of invention)
I would view VM buying talk talk as a very, very aggressive indication of their intent.
Poker - all well and good about the containers, but I think we both know, it’s not container priced driving majority of inflation pressure, might be proved wrong. If your point is a good one, then inflation should drop. I’ll stick to what I was saying earlier, it’s not consumer driver or usual supply and demand, it’s about energy supply being diverted or stopped, purely for non economic reasons. Reducing consumer disposable income is only going to adversely affect the economy & won’t in any way influence Putins energy strategy & therefore will not resolve this kind of inflation. It doesn’t even follow normal supply and demand rules, the buyer can’t not buy & alternative suppliers can’t supply.
Hi poker, the necessity is, UK plc is the consumer in many ways, necessity is UK plc cannot choose not to buy energy, neither can the consumers, squeezing them with interest rate increases will not change that.
Increases in costs are therefore not caused by consumer demand. Impacting consumers ability to afford it will not help the situation.
Prices are increasing due to external pressures & that’s not just putins war, in some cases it’s not even economic good sense (selling fuel destined for Europe) to other countries for less.
Because the inflation pressure is not from consumer demand, trying to reduce consumers demand isn’t going to work, that’s the necessity bit, there’s little consumer choice here, either from the retail or wholesale side.
You can’t increase supply when the pumps are deliberately turned off, by reducing the amount of money consumers have.
This inflation is not caused by retail spending, or an attempt to retail spend, this inflation is caused by wholesale increases the other end. It’s why increasing interest rates on retail mortgages / debt won’t work, taking money away from consumers doesn’t impact rising wholesale costs, it just leaves consumers unable to buy food or heat their houses.

Zib. All project lightening builds are full fibre, including the original 3-4 million premises. It’s not correct to equate DOCSIS with co-ax cables any more.
1 gigabit capable network makes an upgrade to fibre less urgent, because the bandwidth is already available.
Yes rest of network & new builds will be full fibre according to article.
