RE: Perspective: Share price Feb 2017 and share price today7 Feb 2025 17:56
Absolutely agree it is lower risk. But that is the key, it is lower risk, not risk free. We need to rid the board of statements like "This is a no brainer to buy more" (and similarly worded comments).
To be clear of course I'm not saying that anyone who bought under 5p in the last couple of days made a bad move. What I am saying is that although it is lower risk following the deal for La India from a company we all know the name of (I won't say it, I don't want to wake any sleeping demons). Nobody should be jumping in without assessing their personal risk and tolerance for exposure should something go horribly wrong - as for instance Lion pointed out an example of earlier.
Lee gives important facts, which are great. But has anyone stopped to consider what the risks we face are (there are always some risks of course). If you imagine this board is a self contained echo chamber for a minute. Talking about all the upsides is great. But it is probably more important to talk about the risks that we do have and stay informed on those more so than the stuff we know is a given.
Of course I'm not saying we should be doom and gloom and thinking MTL will never pay off. The developments of late are definitely positive for the life of the company. But with these new assets the company is now exposed to other risks. Risks that some of the people invested in the previous company, might know a bit about.
For example in my own view, I feel like Jim Mellon is a risk, which MTL didn't have before, but now does. Now you can say he isn't a major shareholder and can be kept in line with the likes of Bowden and Drachs for example.
What I'm getting at here is potentially a wider discussion about what the changes are for MTL post merger and to consider if any of those changes present new risks that we as investors might need to consider (from both sides of the deal). Doing this might actually bring us all together on one page and provoke more constructive discussion
