Harold Wilson may well have ordered the withdrawal of British troops from Kuwait in the early 1960s, but some of them were still there in 1977 in a military camp next door to the oil refinery at Mina-al- Ahmadi. They were “advisers” to the Emir.

It was my good luck, while working at the refinery, to be responsible for its maintenance. I was given a military security pass to enter the camp. Of course, it had a well-stocked officers’ mess all imported through the diplomatic bag process. It was the only place in Kuwait that legally sold beer and spirits, but only to passholders.

As a diligent worker, I went there every day to check if any light bulbs needed replacing in the mess !

There is all you need to know if you read the public releases on the RNS tab and look for "Sea Lion Operator updates"

But in short the Operator, Navitas, has declared the Final Investment Decision will be taken in mid 2025.

The NPV of the Sea Lion field alone is around $4.5 billion and Rockhopper has 35% of that, say $1.6 billion. How that translates into a share price is anyone's guess but even a Scrooge would suggest £1 is possible by year end.

You are missing out a key point. The takeover is intended to be a Court Sanctioned Scheme of Arrangement and the Court will have to agree it beforehand, and if the Court thinks the shareholders have been stiffed , they might introduce some impediments to the process.

BlueBoy25. Sidara has already made a conditional proposal on 14 April. It's the conditions that are stopping it progressing to a firm proposal

It’s not possible for a formal bid tomorrow.

Reason 1, a precondition of a formal bid is the publication of FY24 audited accounts. They have not and will not be published by tomorrow.

Reason 2, the deadline can be further extended with the agreement of the Board of Wood and the consent of the Panel in accordance with Rule 2.6(c) of the Code. ***Wood and Sidara anticipate further extensions to this deadline being required in order to enable the pre-conditions to be satisfied.***

Both of those reasons were explained in the RNS of 14 April.

The news tomorrow will be an extension beyond 30 April into the mandatory share suspension period, unless for some reason the Panel refuses an extension, in which case Sidara will have to withdraw its conditional proposal and walk away for 6 months.
