kevkan, the difference between Copper and Vanadium could not be greater
Vanadium is 18th most abundant element in the crust (0.019%)
Copper is 24th most abundant element in the crust (0.0068%)
Vanadium is 2.5 times more common than Copper
http://periodictable.com/Properties/A/CrustAbundance.html
Vanadium is used at a rate of approximately 85,000 TPA V
Copper is used at a rate of 23,000,000 TPA Cu
Copper is being used up at a rate 270 times faster than Vanadium
The recent Vanadium price rise is driven by a very clearly established imbalance in the by-production route (the Steel Sl-a-g) route which will only be made worse if steel prices are forced to decline by the idiot Trump's actions.
The recent decline in Copper prices is simply the reoccurence of the trend that was happening between 2011 and 2016, way before Trump. This has been due to large supply projects coming on-stream, primarily in China, but also our old friend Robert Friedland's Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia which came online in 2013. That mine, over the course of its life is scheduled to produce 430,000 Tonnes of Copper PER YEAR, that is 3% of world supply ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyu_Tolgoi_mine )
The post 2016 bull run on copper is primarily down to the expectation that the world will need even more copper production for all of its energy transition and eV projects. Alas the idiot Trump is doing his best to stall this, but like the complete **** he is he will not be able to hold back that tide.
