They often try and really drive the price down at the end of the overhang in the hope of getting a whole load of cheap sells for their long stash.

The more that people buy at these prices the more shares they will have to print for themselves and the quicker the end of the overhang will end

Faramog - there's a lot of people trying to get you to pay a grand or more to attend these 'great and good' events. I much prefer attending the exhibitions such as Energy Storage Europe or Intersolar where you can actually meet the people doing the work. Costs less also and you get less annoying cold calls too

pb940 - that last sentence really got my attention. No doubt it is known to the Largo BoD who recently had to take a big cut in the amount that they got paid by Glencore for their V2O5 production.

GoSushi - as you are no doubt aware there are only three primary Vanadium mines outside of China.

Why might someone think that Glencore might wish to reduce the price of a commodity that they have so much control over ?

The key thing to remember that when people talk about the price of Ferrovanadium they are always talking about the price per contained Kg of Vanadium, this is because Ferrovanadium comes in an infinite variety of flavours - FeV20, Fe50, FeV80 where the number represents the percentage amount, by weight, of Vanadium dissolved in the FeV alloy.

Nitrovan16 on the other hand is a well defined material which contains close to 76% Vanadium by weight - here you can talk about the price of Nitrovan16 either in dollars per KgV - i.e. per Kg of contained Vanadium, or you can talk about the price per Kg of Nitrovan16. The second number will be 0.76 times the first number.

Nitrovan16 was sold at the same price (in dollars per Kg of contained Vanadium) as Ferrovanadium when Vametco was run by Evraz, despite each Vanadium atom in Nitrovan being more than 50% as effective in the Nitrovan16 when compared with FeV. They did this because they also made Ferrovanadium in other parts of their organisation and they did not want Nitrovan being seen to best their other products.

bassguy - no it is not against the rules, and of course it would be extremely profitable for the MMs

qwerty - well that is the way that they are usually roused from their slumbers - an RNS is printed and a flurry of day traders turn up. The MMs see this as an opportunity to ramp the price up so that they can sell to people at elevated prices. They then spend the next few months trying to pick up those shares at lower prices.

A sequence of strong news items changes this paradigm as the buying goes on for days and days, the MMs then have to try and pick a figure that they think that they can get back to to pick up the shares at. With the extraction of millions of shares from the hands of weak holders in the 40s and 30s the supply of cheap shares is much thinner on the ground than it was before the start of december last year. This is the underlying dynamic that may come into play once any short term selling overhang finishes and a squeeze follows on anyone foolish enough to short sub 30p.

Essentially just another attempt at a tree shake, yawn this is very boring. Show a little bit of imagination MMs !

jimbo - yes I have used limit orders occasionally in the past but they can allow the trade to be delayed to such time as it suits the brokers.

I just tried buying at 25.50p but you cannot even get 5000 shares
