dagnamit - it must be remembered that the 2016 PFS for mokopane was for the processing of only the two very highest seams of ore - MAG3 and MAG4 which both have in-magnetite grades of over 2.3% (c. 1.5% in the magnetite which is about 65% of the total ore dug up)

Sitting above the MAG3 and MAG4 layers there is still very Vanadium rich material - more than 1.1Million tonnes of V2O5 in layers that yield approximately 1.5% Vanadium in-magnetite grades.

The only reason that the MAG3 and MAG4 seams (containing 770kT of contained V2O5) were the only ones considered in the 2016 PFS is that they are the richest seams and at the time the PFS was prepared Vanadium was at 10 year lows in price - the vanadium market is very different now and the systemic need for increased Vanadium production means that it would appear more than likely that the material that is removed is not simply just piled up beside the mine, but is at least crushed and magnetically separated to yield a mid-grade V2O5 concentrate.

This agrees with many other analyses, including our dear own National Grid's future energy scenarios (FES) 2018.

FES2018 is of course going to have to be redone as it only considers 80% carbon reduction by 2050 - if the Committee on Climate Change 's recent recommendation to increase this 80% to 100% is adopted then approximately 2-3 times as much stationary storage is going to be required.

Pdub - yes our broker BMO was believed to be selected for that purpose.

Bobby - I have heard a similar story somewhere else and consequently made sure that when I cancelled that I had it in writing. Nobody here uses ADVFN because it is the pits, LSE is the best.

Bella - their goal is simply to make money. Unlike the company they are doing nothing to further the efficient use of South African natural resources and processing facilities to further the development of the VRFB energy storage market as part of the global decarbonisation effort.

They simply spotted that previous Vanadium spikes lasted for a brief period then subsided. They figured the same would happen this time and then shorted BMN and possibly Largo also (there the short has clearly been in play since mid November 2018).

What of course is different this time around is that

1) global stockpiles of Vanadium have been completely eliminated, unlike during the 2004 and 2008 spikes ( https://www.thebushveldperspective.com/blog/public-articles-1/post/vanitec-2nd-energy-storage-meeting-part-1-206 ) - so much so that China is now an importer of Vanadium and not an exporter

and 2) Glencore is due to lose control of the output from Largo at the end of this year and so may be looking to acquire something to replace that, or to find some way to force Largo into a position that it has to accept an extension to its offtake agreement. I think that they will fail if that is their plan.

Bella - Analysts don't take into account any shorting or market nonsense. it is not within their remit.

remember that we have enough cash to Buy Vanchem immediately - any debt that might be needed might only be needed years down the road. However it might be financially efficient from the position of return on cash employed to take on a little debt against the security of Vanchem. I don't see the types of debt being employed as coming from anything like the sorts of organisations that Bella is suggesting.
