I depends whose short position you are talking about. A sell by an external shorter to the Market Maker helps close the market maker's short position but lengthens the shorters short position. However it is the MMs who are in charge and will move the share price so they make the most profit.

Pdub - I don't think it is just my impression I suspect that it is also gambit's as well as he too has seen Terry Perles stand up at the last 3 Vanitec Energy Storage Committee meetings and consistently give the most definitive analysis of the Vanadium market to all those inside the Vanadium industry.

spbhoy - that is very very likely - they accumulated a short position of >20M in Dec-Feb and their tame seller will quite possibly not be prepared to hand over their shares at prices as low as this. Great for the MMs that someone else does. Even better that those selling short will subsequently also have to buy back - ahhhh the MMs know this and will say thank you a second time on the way up.

Pdub I take your point about sites that reorder the data to show each (delayed reported) trade in its real temporal context - however it is also quite helpful to know which trades are hidden and for how long, so I always use LSE logs for building the trade analyses as they allow you to cut and paste at multiple times during the day without having to go back over all previous pastes in case delayed reported trades have popped up since you first pasted that time period. Once you are confident that you have got all the trades then the computer can simply reorder in time order and you've got the full context back.

Uksteveg - the concept of buy and sell is defined in relation to a PI (or non MM entity) and how they trade with the market (market makers). Thus when we say Buy we mean a PI is buying from a market maker maker whilst if we talk of a Sell we mean a PI selling to a market maker.

Sometimes those who wish to confuse say that in any trade one party is the buyer and the other the seller and so all this talk of buys and sells is guff, but that argument is facile and missing the point that can be properly made if you maintain a consistent point of reference.

Compass I am halfway through analysing them at present - they are all sells as far as I can see which is quite possibly a very good thing as it represents shares that have been printed from either a tame seller or a shorter that are now in the hands of the market makers, either partly closing their short position or giving them an excess of shares that they will now been keen to sell at higher prices

Yachty - because before BMN took over Vametco Evraz was feeding high grade Vanadium sl-a-g from their Highveld plant into the rotary kiln as well as the ore taken from the local mine.

I have explained here a number of times before, as well as here ( https://www.thebushveldperspective.com/blog/public-articles-1/post/vametco-mine-visit-407 ) that this is a major reason why Evraz sold the Vametco operation so cheaply - quite simply they believed that without the Vanadium sl-a-g from their other operations that Vametco could not be made to run at a profit based just upon the mine ore itself.

That might have been true if the mining had continued as it had done under their watch - with very little attention being given to precisely the regions of rock being crushed and sent to the kiln, however Bushveld and their geologists have completely changed how that side of things is done now and there is much better grade control over the material coming from the mine next door.

Bolgas - the key word is 'intends' - the important fact is that they are not currently a miner of Vanadium and are years away from becoming a miner of Vanadium and so what are they going to do when they need 1000 Tonnes of the stuff ?

I did meet with Cellcube and as I explained it is not possible for me to ask commercially sensitive questions like 'what are the cost of your products, you know the ones that you explicitly don't advertise ?', 'where do you buy your Vanadium ?' Or more precisely it is possible to ask the questions just that it makes it more likely for them to turn around and tell me to stiff off. I will pass on what I can when I can.

There is no way that a similar battery storage electrolyte can be made from niobium, or any other element for that matter. The clever thing about a vanadium flow battery is that it is THE SAME ELECTROLYTE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BATTERY.

Thus it doesn't matter if you have any diffusion of electrolyte from one side of the battery to the other because its the same stuff on both sides. If that were to happen in any other type of flow battery you would likely get irreversible degradation of battery energy storage capacity.

Vanadium is the only element that exists in aqueous solution in 4 different oxidation states - thus on one side of the battery you can have oxidation state 2+ going to oxidation state 3+ whilst on the other side of the battery you have oxidation state 5+ going to oxidation state 4+ but it is the exact same liquid on both sides - it's just that the liquid can be essentially in any one of 4 different states.
