Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe gave NERSA leave to licence 500MW worth of SSEG projects, without him needing to sign it off.

Some 1,000MW worth of SSEG projects have been stuck in limbo for years waiting for licences of this kind.

Also, the restriction of 1MW per project has been lifted to 10MW - which is enough to power shopping malls, factories and residential complexes.

Not really coffeecups. The eskom BESS project funded by the world bank is just one potential string in BE's bow. You might consider that Eskom problems of supply would actually encourage many more South African industrial companies to search for RE+Storage solutions that allow them to be less dependent on Eskom.

bassguy - yep the tesla 'battery' performance is completely unrepresentative of an individual cell's performance. They make it look like their batteries last longer simply by switching in spare cells. They don't make it look like zero degradation as that would be a complete giveaway so instead they put in an arbitrary rate of a few %. Fine if you want to run a car for 200K miles but of not great benefit if you are running the battery much harder on a stationary energy storage application. 1+ cycles per day instead of perhaps only 0.1 charge per day (40 charges per year = 10,000 miles )
