Let us hope the US market provides a little boost to the MCRO sp later today.

Better day today, a little extra pressure on the shorters and being added to with a rise in the US, slightly magnified by a small fall in the £. A bit more positive news would make next week interesting.

Good find Monty and perhaps helped the MCRO rise in the US yesterday which bodes well here today. Even with a slightly stronger £, the gap between the prices on the US and UK markets has opened up a little. These positive comments and Director Buys, along with a small rise from the bottom of the trench must being causing the shorters to sweat a little, especially as it is now days away from a November update. I think and hope that the next couple of weeks will be good for those holding MCRO.

Typed in FT Microfocus and the first link was very informative, I would say overwhelming positive forecasts on sp, just need another bit of positive news to recover upwards momentum and knock out some of the shorters and a decent report in November.

Well, we are holding around the 270 level, we just need a little more positive news or another director buy to maintain the upward trend. November's update is getting pretty close now, let's hope it is the first half of the month.

What the ..........is Bell talking about.................Red Rock Chairman Andrew Bell comments: "It was a common trope a few months ago that Red Rock looked cheap, given its listed assets and the potential of its projects. If this was accurate, it was not a position different from many other companies. The value was in posse rather than in esse, and the future fortunes of the Company appeared to hang largely on one asset, with the expected restoration of its Kenyan licenses.

Plain English, please...........when people start jabbering that is the time to worry.........other than that, not a bad update but what has happened to the Jupiter shares, Bell won't want to sell all of them as he'll loose his directorship.

I am fully expecting further RNS relating to directors buys and contract announcements. I believe this is part of a campaign (and directors wanting to make money or at least recover losses and hit) of positive publicity prior to the update. The BoD have to recover the sp to protect against take-over and support the brand, as a purchaser of long term software, the tanking of the sp would be a concern. Any way, a 4.64% rise today is very welcome.

Walshp1, I let better qualified persons answer your questions. Personally, it does not make sense and once the shorters have had their fun and some good news comes out of MCRO, then things will change dramatically. The previous RNS detailed a reduction in debt and an abundance of cash, in the bank, being generated and available in revolving credit and if the latest RNS is a buy by the Chairman, that is a further sign of confidence. I hope one day very soon I will wake up and MCRO will make me very happy! DYOR

Up 4% in the US, tomorrow in the UK will be interesting, especially if the upward momentum holds.

I agree with RB, given the amount of cash they have got and are generating, it is getting to the point where it would be irresponsible of the BoD not to buy back shares at this price. The are a number of good reasons, such as burning the shorters and taking back some control, protect against takeover at a silly price, support the sp, support long term shareholders and potentially generate some additional cash when sold back into the market. Given what we are experiencing as shareholders, the BOD are remarkably quite, are they in a closed period and cannot buy? Does anyone know off hand if a resolution is current for the buyback of shares to save me trawling through past AGM reports?

Palpitations have stopped with a decent rise so far today.

Personally, I think they should reinstate the dividend but at a lower level to reflect a good yeild on the current share price and use the balance to announce that they have further reduced the debt , I am sure they could also make some sort of dividend statement for going forward to manage expectations.

RNS out and Blackrock are adding, that has to be a positive signal, just need a few more.

Strathy, I am with you on your post.............. This 6.5% drop today is more than double the market drop against a back ground of relatively small volume and a slightly stronger buy than seller strength at the moment.

Just hope the company releases an RNS or some news that halts the drift and supports the sp.

We know have a company that generates around half its market cap in free cash, I know there is debt but how do you value a going concern at £875m when it is spinning off in excess of £400m in free cash???? Not to mention (again) the cash is spun off profitable long term contracts involving embedded software, its like any other company having a massive forward order book largely guaranteed for years.............

Disappointing but not wholly unexpected given the news over the weekend, still hoping that an RNS will be triggered on the large buy and we'll be enlightened and the sp will finally respond positively against this over selling of MCRO.

Another thought, MCRO may have bought some of its own shares, if you have plenty of cash and the price is this low, why wouldn't you, cheaper way of demonstrating confidence and supporting a higher share price than paying out the dividend. If I were on he BoD at this point with more than £1bn at my disposal and generating free cash, I would certainly support such a decision and I suspect that the market might expect further buys, plus it would shake out the shorters, if they thought this was the first purchase of many. If the shares were held in Treasury, I assume they could always be resold if necessary at some point.

Ftsefan, it is interesting and yesterdays volume as a result of that single trade is one of a handfull of high volume days in the last five years, those days have been followed by a sustained climb in share price, although lat July's was very small before drifting to the current lowest point since 2007. This will put pressure on the shorters and might even be a/some shorter(s) going long or it could be an institution re-establishing a position or it could be someone building a stake, hopefully we'll find out in the next couple of days as they break a threshold for an RNS.

This has to be a positive sign and it seems that the number of trades and interest in MCRO has been picking up in recent days albeit probably day traders grabbing a % here and there as the sp bobs up and down through a fairly large daily range, no doubt perpetuated by the day traders' actions.

It could also be a leak on some interesting news - I just hope it was a buy and not a sell !
