Usually because the seller(s) has inside info that a placing is coming and they'll recoup them all at a lower price, in other words short selling. Often it's the market makers themselves and bucket shops who make a quick buck on the turn. Company gets it's cash, mm's and bucket shops make a few quid, they're all happy. Only the retail investors lose, that's you. I suspect the 'good news' will be a huge placing disguised under some sort of small, local grant or deal that is conditional on there being a huge fundraising first. Rinse and repeat. Aimho.
